  1. Could you put some bo lalot on the menu? And with real lalot leaves? Please?
  2. That's awful--and at 6pm! I hope they catch them the effers.
  3. Are you talking about the American woman who owned the shop--because I always found her very helpful and very nice. I think their clothes were just not right for this area--aside from being expensive.
  4. anyone go today???
  5. Monopoly69, surely you should tell your partner to get in touch with the police. Perhaps they can track the girl down he walked home. Maybe if they know which school she goes to, she knows which school they attend. Couldn't hurt.
  6. I agree Ibo--much prefer SMBS foods. I wish they would expand more.
  7. Nero--And it would be good if the Kramer Books ED transplant could include the food.
  8. Nero--Are you talking about Kramerbooks in Dupont Circle with the great cafe underneath it? If so I completely agree.
  9. I love all the fellow pedants on this thread. Yes, you're right Barry. Anyway, I have to question this statement, "Gentrification can cause false aspirations, myth, status anxiety and emotional distress." I need some examples of these false aspirations, myth, status anxiety and emotional distress, bc personally, it seems those anxieties are suffered the world over. When a kid stabs another kid for his mobile phone in Peckham, for example, isn't this an example of status anxiety?
  10. Yeah, but it's a bit like saying Surrey is London. Well, maybe Croydon?
  11. Blue--Hope you are doing ok--must have been truly horrible. Have you seen this thread? Perhaps it's the same girls?
  12. Btw, Williamsburg is in Brooklyn, not Manhattan.
  13. Dom--you need to reread thequietone's post. You're talking about children of serious cases of abuse, he is talking about rude, middle class mums not controlling their children. There is a vast sea of difference. Now, who do you propose should be swept into parenting classes?
  14. I can't tell you how many times I have heard of houses burgled in this method. There must be a gap in the market for a lockable letterbox, one you could lock at night.
  15. Domitianus Wrote: I guess, > however, that part of our society's PC manifesto > is that people have the inalienable right to have > children no matter how unfit for the task they > might be. So it's now PC to want to have children? What would you suggest Dom, some sort of regulatory system like China? That's gone down a treat hasn't it? Shall we go for enforced sterilisation like India tried in the 70's? So all these middle class mothers are somehow unfit, who else is unfit then? This is surely a wind up.
  16. Unfortunately not. I just happen to love it. :)) But back to the clinic. So we have the DMC (being characterised here as "big business) and the addicts on one side vs. local trade and concerned residents/ BARA on the other? This is getting too bizarre.
  17. So is this basically all about loss of trade? Is it just about local businesses being worried about the DMC having a monopoly on prescriptions because they are also the GP? Because if there is already a methadone clinic/needle exchange what else is there to worry about? The man I spoke to seemed very indiginant over the idea that the DMC would get 90K for opening up a pharmacy with methadone clinic/needle exchange.
  18. No no--don't work for them or have anything to do with them. Just appreciate some cleanliness when I got to the doctor.
  19. So is this true or not? Does Maceys the chemist already dispense Methadone? I was told this by the guys manning the petition table in front of their store yesterday. I was also sort of disturbed that it seemed they were whipping up the fear factor when all THEY really cared about was the money/loss of trade. I'm fine with it if they want to make a point about loss of trade, but when they start trying to play on fears to hide that, well, then I find that very annoying.
  20. Women should be licensed to breed? Mothers are now "part of the living dead that inhabit the suburbs with their continuous refrain of "Don't do that darling don't do that darling don't do that darling." From their inanimate faces I guess they say it to their hubbies too."? Charming how this thread went from wanting child-free environs to some misogynistic rant. Pray tell, where are the fathers in all this? Or should only the mothers be blamed when little Oscar goes off the rails? Child free areas are like smoke free areas (when there was such a thing to worry about). There is no way to do it effectively without banning them/ completely. The noise will always spill over just as the smoke did.
  21. I know there has been plenty of discussion about the methadone clinic that the DMC is proposing, but I just want to say, I for one think the DMC is a pretty good thing to have. I was there the other day and had flashbacks to my old GP, a dingy 30's semi with shag carpeting and fittings from god knows when. It always looked as if you'd actually catch something there rather than be cured of any illness. Surely, they should be at least given credit for having a clean, modern efficient facility?
  22. Crikey--that was bold of them! 4:20 in the afternoon??? And on that bit of fairly well-trafficked road. Glad your daughter got away.
  23. You're right Asset, but right now I am TERRIFIED of taking my 3 yo and nearly 1 yo ANYWHERE, especially at such a place as Le Chandelier where it's obvious they don't want kids around unless I suppose they are in a strait jacket with their mouth taped shut.
  24. As I said, EVERYONE thinks their kids are well-behaved. :))
  25. But Dom, EVERYONE thinks their kids are well-behaved. ;-)
