Is Kettling A Legitimate Police Tactic ?
antijen replied to Tony.London Suburbs's topic in The Lounge
bbw Just wondering if you were the only one needing a sorting by the police in this incident. you may well have felt this was duly deserved, traveller kid, how old?? -
I asked police what was going on as my son often comes home at that time and the 185 was in the cordon, he said "someone was stabbed" I asked if it was a young guy, he said "Is your son black" I said no, then he said you've nothing to worry about, and he's not dying.

I agree intexasatthemo, I do not believe the goverment is to be trusted in handing over our childrens education to private sponsers and although this may seem like a fairly new idea it is not, in the mid 90's there was the P.F.I. (private financial initiative). When W.S. Atkins pulled out of a 5yr contract after 2yrs with Southwark Council, to manage Southwark schools, people were up in arms. This happened a week after Charles Clark, secretary of state for education, warned leaders of local authorities if they didnt run schools more efficiently, management would be handed over to the private sector. Yet W.S Atkins walked away without any penalties, I believe they were given the contract regardless of having no experience, and when told this through there bidding process what did they do, they hired an education expert from Southwark Council, won the contract, then hired this man back to Southwark Council. You couldn't make this up, if this was your average joe on the street I'm sure he'd be doing a lie down in Wormwood scrubs, but its alright for them with there dodgy deals with our money. I do not believe our childrens education is of much importance to the goverment, they will happily take it out of the public sector, who knows they may get McDonalds to open a school in Dulwich for girls. -

Many people campaigned against this academy and others and often parents and teachers views are ignored. Click link. http://www.wrp.org.uk/news/2304 -

I have just came back from Scotland where I have saw for many years now a growing bitterness especially towards the eastern european, before joining the EU, when it was more field work done (berry picking etc), many local people felt there culture was taken away from them, regardless of the fact this work was reclining due to Thatchers goverment sending dole officers on to the fields, as most of this work was done on the side, Still there was many people who were brought up relying on this work. Now the factory work where the conditions were bad for local people, never getting a permanent contract, therefore working 6-8mths yearly, happy when minimum wage came in because wages were so bad, is no longer available to them and some factories replacing most of there British workers. I believe the goverment has encouraged racial tension and racism on diffrent levels. When the asylum dispersion programme was brought in, 2002, (I do not know what the policy is now) I remember one year of riots in Glasgow, people were furious at what seemed to be support for immigrants who had been moved on poor estates where people were struggling and felt they'd been forgotten. I remember being in Somerset quite a bit around that time and noticing how it lacked any diversity in culture, I was told, that little towns or villages had come together and because of a small population had managed to fight against being part of the dispersion area. I can understand people feeling it is unfair but my Polish frinds came from Edingburgh where they are living to visit me while I was there and it gave a chance for great debate, and at times an understanding that the people who seem most affected, jobwise, are the poorer people, I saw no signs of racism but a willingness to relate.

Anyone else in ED got this strange bug?
antijen replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Sue ny sons girlfriend had it, only lasted a day, I was away and he phoned me at 2.30am, panicking. He gave her some slippery elm which helped her stomach, but no sore eyes. Anything with eyes I use castor oil before bed, put some on cotton wool before sleeping and wipe over eyes, dont worry about it going into eyes, it will stop infection, help remove anything in there, Ive found it to be great for most eye complaints. -

A lot of the money raised with big known charities goes to big pay for senior management eliza. A couple of years ago there were demonstrations outside charity shops in protest against this, many volunteers supported this. Tried to link with google but found this instead. http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:sZ0NUxg7Zq4J:www.labournet.net/ukunion/0803/shelter2.pdf+charity+management+protest&cd=19&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=firefox-a -

People can be charged with theft by finding but I agree with posts that if you want to make sure no one takes your donations then dont leave them outside when closed. Before I moved here I purposely left things outside on a sunday so people could help themselves, I went back at night to make sure it had been taken and no mess was left. I preferred to give them free as there was many people who could not afford to shop at the charity shops. I knew a number of people who did this, as there was quite a few homeless people. Although this may not be the case in ED I have met quite a few people who cannot afford the prices in the mind shop, maybe people donating leave it outside when its closed because they expect people to take it. It clearly tells you not to. -
Sherwick I think your thread above "It certianly wouldn't have stopped IMMEDIATELY if she had followed due process so why does this immediate need only apply to not following due process? Double and illogical standards." covers a lot of that has been going on in this debate, if you feel passionately about something on this forum, where it differs in this black and white way, whether your a doc, nurse ,patient we can all feel this to be personal, people should be allowed to express what they think, but it has been showed that only applies again with double standards on this forum. There is only so much can be said and it is a choice between whether you feel this issue was fair or not. But I believe it has become with a number of people on this thread much more difficult especially people working in this system, and I sympathise, but I believe it can also be as personal for each of us, expert or not. Trust is a word thats came up again and again, if I need to visit my family and friends in care I've come across staff, time and time again, who refuse to answer my questions of moral dilemas they are often faced with, it always ends going round in circles, caught up in the system springs to mind, but I will certainly continue because I think patients if they wish should be able to ask and talk to people who are treating them about some of the issues raised here, I know I would absolutely want to know if whoever was looking after my mum, what there position would be if faced with abuse. Then maybe there could be a trust.

Can anyone tell me where the rules can be found, it gets all complicated when they come in, but I suppose I should. It was put up on another thread that my friend was using the same ISP as me, sure it cant be a rule or I'm sureI would have been warned,Is it common practice for administrators to inform people, I've never seen it before.
