  2. Dr Zoo Terribly sorry for what happened to your dog, especially given that your dog was 12 years old. Sadly, there are irresponsible owners and to merely walk away when it was obvious what had occurred was appalling. I hope you have luck tracking this Guy down and a description of the Guy can only be helpful. One thing I would say is that you twice emphasised that your dog was on a lead and given your ordeal I will tread carefully but I would estimate from having dogs for over 30 years that when I see the odd attack it is, invariably, dogs being taken advantage off while they are on a lead as the perpetrator senses they are restricted and comparitively defenceless. An example of this is the occasional Male dog trying to mount another Male dog to show domination. Hope your beloved dog makes a full recovery.
  3. Face the future with enthusiasm. Names and Faces change but life goes on and time will tell but just as no-one is indispensible in a Company ( though some think they are ) then things change and people adapt in life and I will , probably, be walking a small pack of dogs in the beautiful Footscray Meadows near Sidcup in all likelihood.... If not The Isle Of Wight or Lake Como :)
  4. Well Done to the Hamlet. Used to go 45 years ago when Corinthian Casuals and Chris Joy played alternate weeks there. In brief seeing they are in their " temporary" home does this mean they have lost their battle to stay at Champion Hill. Please tell me not....

Unless you join me in a Time Machine Loz. 10 Days Half-Board in St.Anton, including fares to London Airport ( can't truthfully remember whether it was Gatwick or Luton ) flight to Geneva then 5 hour Coach Trip to St. Anton and return travel all included... For ................ ?36 per person. It was 1974 though :)

You lucky, lucky Man. The ONE place I wished I had visited would have been that Jungle. You were very sensible keeping sturm. When I saw Celtic v Dundee United these 75 year ols Celts spent most of the time insulting each other in the absence of Dundee United fans. I would loved to have been in the Jungle v Rangers...:) ANYWAY.................From The Manchester Evening News 2007.. " ONE of the most bitter rivalries in football has taken a new twist with the claim that Liverpool fans stole their famous You'll Never Walk Alone anthem from Manchester United supporters. Grandmother Jane Hardwick says she was left seeing red after reading a letter in a newspaper which said the song, made famous by Gerry and the Pacemakers, was first belted out on the terraces of Anfield. Jane, a lifelong Reds' supporter from this end of the East Lancs Road, claims it was originally sung by her and thousands of fans at Old Trafford long before it became associated with Liverpool."........

Not Everton, Mick Mac. Funnily enough I did not like GM's version as hismicrophone was drowning out the fans. Contrast that to C/Barcelona when the music stops after 1 minute ? The answer is as equally unlikely as Everton :)

Not my understanding but that was the red herring/blind alley as I , deliberately, mentioned " British" to encourage that view. Celtic do the best renditions imo and if you put " Celtic v Barcelona" on You Tube and wait for the tannoy to stop midway the song and just hear the 60,000 crowd you will see why :) No, I have sen more than a few times the surprising answer..:)
  10. malumbu Wrote : (surely everyone knows "You'll Never Walk Alone" was from the musical Carousel) ....but does everyone know who the first British Team were who were purported to have sung it on the terraces ( be careful of the red herring and blind alley here ) :)

I have been lucky in that I had 29 great years near The Elephant and Castle living over a busy market and have had 35 more tranquil years living just half-a-mile from the S.E.9 Postal District. I have lived with 4 different Black Ladies over the last 30 years and socialised with innumerable others and, rarely, encountered a problem here though Joe :) I have to be honest though that if I think of, say,the 20 most "dodgy" situations I have been in ( outside attending Football matches all over the Country ) then they have, virtually, all been in South East London over those 35 years since I left but frequently returned. For Example around 4 months ago I parked o/s Morleys,Queens Road,Peckham at 11pm and, deliberately, took the end bay so as not to get blocked in, as is my custom. Suddenly 5 mins later 3 Guys arrived in a car and parked on Double Yellow Lines 1 foot in front of mine, effectively, blocking me in and just started chatting. I am now stuck and was never going to get out as they knew very well what they had done so I just had to hope that the car behind me lef , which it did after 10 minutes. THat could have been a long night...

To say I am a Dog Lover is the understatement of the year and I have not contributed to this thread before as it is obvious there are places in this park, which I am no longer familiar with , where dogs are not allowed off the leash. However when you say they should be on the lead " in the rest of the park " what, roughly, is the proportion of that shared park space are you referring to ? How sizeable is the " dog walk bit" ??

Believe me Joe Leg I thought long and hard whether to reply to your comments but I, simply, had to. I was born and bred within 5 miles of ED and though I have been away from the heart of South-East London for 35 years I miss the vibe, terribly at times though I live in a really pleasant and safe area. It's just I can't let " bland" comments go, I'm afraid. It's like me and my family committing 999 crimes and your Family just one crime and me saying " Well it's NOT just us that commits crime ! ". In my hypothetical situation I may have spoken a truism but it hardly tells the story. I have just returned from another West Sussex weekend and in my recent visits I have spoken to 95% of people pasing me sunbathing while they walk their dogs. Been to a house selling Summer Flowers left in his garden and you simply help yourself to however many boxes you want and leave the money in an envelope and push it through his letterbox if he is out. I also saw a Girl no more than 5 totally on her own riding her bike on the old Bluebell Line without a Parent in sight and, seemingly, without a care in the world. I have found nothing but friendliness in my numerous visits there though there IS "some" crime but so litle it is hardly worth mentioning. " Foolish" youth ARE everywhere but, proportionately the larger cities have far more of their share in my lielong experience of living in Inner and Outer London.

More of a lesson in imagining what > the place is like when it is wet and grey. I am amazed how little thought some people give to a life-changing decision. When we moved to Bexley I came on 4 totally different times to our prospective road and we met with our, potential ,next door neighbours for 90 minutes while we, efectively, interviewed each other. The biggest error many older couples make moving away from all their friends and family to The West Country is what happens when one of them passes and the other is left isolated a long way from home.

Houses in my area are much cheaper than in West Wickham. Average ?350,000 I would say. Just arrived back and not intending to be smug but while I was in The Sussex Countryside did not give a thought to the fact that, effectively,I have no back door security. I am near Bexley. p.s. On a totally seperate point i.r.o. West Wickham,I saw one of the funniest comments on here that I have ever seen. One of the regulars had just chosen West Wickham as his new home to bring up his young family with care.Fair Enough. Anyone doing a modicum of research would know that West Wickham is not diverse at all and yet though this guy ,deliberately, chose, that area to bring up his family he said the problem with the area is " its lac of diversity" . Who Knew ? :)
  17. Went to the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck in 1976. Stayed nearby in Seefeld where The Cross-Country Winter Olympics ( lang lauf ) were held. Thoroughly pleasant place and Kenneth Cope and Footballer Brian Dear ( West Ham ) were in our group.

We will leave it at that then. Same old story, irrespective of Party affiliations. When in power Labour wanted to raise millions by their introduction. When in power Tories want to retain millions for their continuation. Plus les choses changent, plus elles restent les m?mes....:)
  19. I KNOW I am missing something but for the life of me I do not what it is ! lol I used to live near Dulwich and moved 35 years ago to the very edge of South London/North Kent and it has been fantastic though I still miss the vitality and stimulation of living in the heart of London. I live within 2 miles of 4 main Towns. Shopping is good. There are endless Parks,Fields, Woods and Meadows to enjoy. I am near The Blackwall Tunnel and The Dartford Tunnel and The M25 and only half-hour from Charing Cross/Trafalgar Square. The area is so safe that I never lock my car in my road or drive and I am going away right now to Sussex for the weekend and do not even have a lock on my back door. I am 50 yards from a 192 Acre Park voted " Best In London" 4 years ago ( it's nice but it's not! ) As I am less than a mile from a London Postal Code, enjoy the tranquillity of the Family-friendly Suburbs and am 15 minutes from the Beautiful Kent Countryside so what point am I missing ? :)

Only in invisible ink ! lol Your 2 contributions on the 16th and 17th April on this thread did not contain any visible acknowledgement. :) Anyhoo here is a You Tube clip that says it all .... Just put " Guy gets mad, watch till end " and the 40 second clip admirably sums it all up...:)

I'm not going to knock Battersea but when I visited they mostly had Staffies. I remember seeing a 10 month old one called Tonto (sp) and after 2 minutes he returned, looking forlorn, back to the far side of his pen. Another Time-Waster he must have thought. I wrote about him on their Website , hoping someone would give him a home, which I was not going to do. After 3 months he disappeared from that Website and when I rang Battersea to find out where he had gone they informed me " he turned aggressive" and was euthanized. He hated the noise of the trains and other dogs barking and a 10 month old Staffie needs plenty of exercise. They should have sent him to a Country offshoot like Brands Hatch or Windsor. Very Sad...
  22. Stringvest: youths: I was on different business somewhere else! Tried to get along pavement but couldn't for gang of youths, bikes chucked on pavement outside the chicken shop. I asked several times to get past, but they were too busy laughing and shouting. I walked back further and crossed over, so that I could pass them without being in the road. THEN I SAW WHAT THEY WERE DOING. Chucking chips and chicken in the road to a flock of pigeons and ROARING with laughter as they were maimed and killed. Traffic was trying to avoid the flock etc. People at the bus stop were distressed and exclaiming, but NOT DOING ANYTHING. After the fourth was squashed and one flailing in the kerb, I stepped in. I picked up the pigeon with its neck broken and innards hanging out and headed for the youths. DO YOU WANT THIS FOR YOUR MUM? DO YOU WANT THIS WITH YOUR CHIPS? LOOK WHAT YOU DID. "EUUUUGHHH They were all screeching, you'll get rabies you nasty bit**" "eff off" ... YOU ARE THE NASTY ONES, WICKED AND CRUEL I said. They got mouthy and wouldn't leave so I called the police. I also despatched the pigeon flapping in the kerb and put them in the bin. Police have better things to do, but if kids aged 10-15 think this cruelty is REALLY FUNNY and acceptable, what is next for them KITTENS, PUPPIES .....??? Really Well Done. A reliable friend of mine saw some youths in Lewisham around 2 years ago throwing stones at a small dog who was roaming the streets, presumably lost and dis-orientated. Same mentality. It is hard to know how one would react instinctively in some situations. I was minding my business in Downham Way, Grove Park last year when a few youths suddenly had a pitched battle right near our bus stop which nearly turned ugly. Ironically and co-incidentally the Police whizzed by and this caused an adjournment as ( Don't Laugh ) the rival assailants formed a sudden temporary alliance and pushed themselves into a nearby garden to avoid detection. Then they started to chase each other again ! >

It's this > government that has also rejected Labour's call > for a compulsory levy on bookmakers to pay for > gambling addiction treatment. Sadly, predictably and somewhat inevitably, the powerful Bookmakers Lobby got their way, as always. However ( ! ) there is one teensy-weensy little problem with your analysis is that it was NOT The Tories who brought in these dreaded FOBT's it was "Friends Of The Common Man and Working Class- The LABOUR Party who were responsible for this atrocity that has ruined so many people's lives. An example of who suffers from these machines is Oxford where in David Cameron's Constituency there is only ONE Betting Shop while in nearby constituencies they proliferate. The reason ? Boomakers know that the more desperate and poorer someone is the less judgment and self-discipline they have and these people are much more likely to lose the little money they have. It's a disgrace but in the same way all Governments benefit in taxes from Smoking then Gambling will never really be reined in. Too much loss of income for The Chancellor of the day. You are right in that it now can take1 minute 20 seconds to lose ?120 instead of 20 seconds to lose ?100. If only the general public knew how many FOBT's are demolished by angry punters they would be shocked but it is awful publicity for The Bookmakers who hush it up and install a new machine asap. :(
