I just hope that the fishing and farming communities remember who it was who sold them down the river for their own political gains, and when someone like Johnson/Gove/Farage rocks up for another photo-stunt, they run them out of town There were signs with the recent by-election that this is so, for such a Brexity community to then vote for a candidate with uber-remain credentials shows you just how much discontent there must be right now. Of course there will always be winners and losers in any major economic change of direction, there have even been winners during this pandemic. But Brexit wasn't sold on that premise, quite the opposite in fact for the fishing and farming sectors, as it was all about a chance to 'take back control' and prosper. I'm sure what now gripes with a lot of people is the casual off-handedness that such 'collateral damage' was always factored in. Claims to being sympathetic to people's plights ring hollow when you remember that they voted knowingly to put them in that plight in the first place...

This cuts across party politics. They aren't working and are clearly socialising, no different to going to the pub after work in normal times. Those lucky enough to have a garden weren't allowed to socialise in such numbers. It was literally one rule for them, another for the rest of us...

Exactly Seph, and not forgetting we're now on our 4th Brexit minister. It was all very predictable, we literally have a Vote Leave Gov. ...its Brexit's fault, its not how sh!t this government is.... Although IMO any form of Brexit was worse for the country than remaining, there were forms of Brexit that could've been better than what we've ended up with, regardless of a Gov's incompetence. But no, that wasn't pure enough for No Dealers like Cat, who then have the gall to now just blame the Gov. It's a common theme, it's never their fault..and never will be. The reality is, it's a shit Brexit allied with a shit Gov...

To me it was pretty clear that Seph was quoting someone else, be it from here or another source. I usually use italics for someone else's comments/quotes etc, and also in the third person e.g. It's not my Brexit! or for stressing a word. After a while you get used to most people's posting idiosyncrasies, it's what catches out the multiple account holders...

A couple of points picked up in the by-election aftermath... Postal votes which were cast before the Partygate revelations broke, were heavily in Lib Dems favour, suggesting they didn't play a significant role in people's thinking/voting. Rather, NS is a strong rural/farming area, lots of unhappiness about Brexit being bad for UK farmers as witnessed in the detail of the recent Australia/NZ trade deals.

Dan Hodges (Mail on Sunday opinion writer) hasn't heard of tactical voting... On the by-election. Disastrous result for Boris. But a pretty terrible result for Starmer as well.

Tories are saying "he's on a final warning" But in reality... there can't be long if they want to win next election. Indeed, but it might even be too late for that, as a rather big, dark slow-moving Covid/Brexit cloud has appeared called rising living costs. I think electorally they might already be screwed...
