  1. I'm guessing they'll update the fixtures during the current two week international break...
  2. Point taken, but in light of, and the closeness, of the SE case, is it really surprising that another woman randomly attacked and murdered drew such attention? Again, without adding context of the male murders you cited, it becomes a pretty pointless exercise...

One of the reasons the SE case received such a (as the OP put it) 'fanfare' in the news, was not just the nature of the crime but also who carried it out, namely a serving Met police officer, the very people who are supposed to be protecting us. For that reason alone it was always going to create more attention, so I'm not sure why the need to question it...

  5. Just read that Sainsbury's are looking to recruit Christmas seasonal staff, should be worth contacting them directly about local possibilities... https://news.sky.com/story/sainsburys-launches-drive-to-recruit-22-000-temporary-staff-for-christmas-period-12422695 Online deliveries is one of the few sectors that 'did well' during the pandemic so that might be a worthwhile avenue to explore more fully... ETA: Royal Mail is another company that recruits Christmas seasonal workers...
  6. Good luck with the search for work beansprout, a lot of people are struggling to make ends meet with the effects of the pandemic, and with furlogh ending it's about to get a lot worse...

  10. Well done Meds and thanks for organising, you're lucky I missed the Friday session... ;-)

You say > brits aren't prepared to accept the conditions of > the job, but EU drivers do...isn't that the very > definition of 'undercutting'? Not in this context, the Gov's use of 'undercutting' was clearly to imply that EU workers were lowering wages for British workers, it's an oft used argument by Leavers both during and after the Brexit debate, that's simply not the case with the haulage industry whereby British workers had long since given up on the industry. EU drivers didn't have to do any 'undercutting', they simply filled a growing void that already existed, a void that has since returned after many EU workers returned to the EU post-Brexit...
  12. FoM meant they could do either, they could work for haulage companies from their own country, but they were also able to work for UK haulage companies, likewise UK drivers were free to work for other haulage companies in the EU. For a long time there's been a growling shortage of UK haulage drivers working for UK companies, and that gap was eventually filled by EU drivers, basic market forces at work. The market has since changed due to Brexit which is why we now have a shortage of drivers again...
  13. The UK haulage industry was going downhill before EU drivers rocked up, like fruit picking it's an industry that simply doesn't appeal to Brits and what they're prepared to do workwise, e.g. long hours, often sleeping in laybys, no washing/toilet facilities etc. The Gov's claim that EU lorry drivers undercut Brits is disingenuous to say the least...
  14. Thanks Meds, have updated my picks and will keep an eye out for the later session pairings...
  15. I'm late to the party, just made my picks for the second session with a minute to spare, didn't have time to read the rules so had no idea what/why I was picking...
