Corbyn would be mad (yes I know) to put his name to any deal, but he has to be seen to be trying. The problem is that if him and May agree to add a Customs Union/confirmatory referendum etc, it can only go in the Political Declaration, which isn't legally binding. The PD is nothing more than a wishlist. With May saying she will resign once a deal is agreed, that leaves it open for a hard Brexiter like Johnson to come along later and simply rip up the PD and force a no deal crash out...

Last might's votes were never about finding 'a winner', merely to see how the land lies and to filter out non-starters such as No Deal and Norway. Rather than one option being the way forward, I think it's more likely one or two options will be considered, e.g. Customs Union with a ratification vote, likewise CU could be tacked onto May's WA, as could RV, as could CU & RV...

Johnson and Mogg are playing an obvious game, get rid of May and elect an ERG-type leader to negotiate the next stage i.e. Political Declaration, so that they can threaten to tear it up if they don't get their own way, which is their long-term aim. The EU played a blinder last week with the April 12th extension, they could see that the Gov was setting everything up for the EU to be blamed for a No Deal. Now if No Deal happens it will be solely down to the UK Gov...

Last I heard the ERG jihadists like Baker and Francois haven't budged, supposed to be around 20. Their thinking is that May's deal is worse than remaining. Can't see the DUP backing May either, especially after May yesterday throwing them under the Stormont bus, plus Tory rebels, all adds up to not passing...

It's a false equivalence comparing an online petition with the referendum, if you want a like for like comparison there's the recent online petition to 'No Deal on the 29th', which at the moment has drawn just over half a million signatures. What's interesting about both RevokeA50 and No Deal is how they have become legitimate solutions for each side to get out of this mess, especially when you consider neither was talked about seriously at the beginning. Both are easier to understand concepts and very quick to implement. I suspect the surprise popularity is down to 'battle fatigue', people just want it over and done with asap. RevokeA50's surprise popularity has also helped to 'mainstream' the People's Vote idea, which could be an important factor now that Parliament has to come up with a consensus solution...

May being duplicit as usual. From the Guardian Live feed... After MPs voted on Tuesday for the second time to reject May?s deal, and on Wednesday (in a non-binding vote) to reject no deal, May told MPs that, if they did not pass her deal soon, the alternative would have to be a long article 50 extension. She said: ''If the house finds a way in the coming days to support a deal, it would allow the government to seek a short limited technical extension to article 50 to provide time to pass the necessary legislation and ratify the agreement we have reached with the EU. But let me be clear, such a short technical extension is only likely to be on offer if we have a deal in place. Therefore, the house has to understand and accept that, if it is not willing to support a deal in the coming days, and as it is not willing to support leaving without a deal on 29 March, then it is suggesting that there will need to be a much longer extension to article 50. Such an extension would undoubtedly require the United Kingdom to hold European parliament elections in May 2019.'' In other words, May now appears to be poised to ask for a short extension of the kind that she told MPs last week would not be on offer if the deal were not passed.
