  1. Hi everyone There seems to be a mass chopping down of beautiful old trees in the area by a company called Grimswood and Toms. They chopped a plum tree in our street today which is a conservation area, and proposed to chop another under the premise that they are diseased. Both trees produced an abundancce of fruit this summer, yet they said they were both dead. My partner asked them to show him where it was diseased, and they then said oh actually we cant see any disease. He stood beneath the tree refusing them access, and they left it alone. I have just seen 5 lovely huge trees on Elmwood Road with signs on them all looking like they are next for the chop. They all seemed perfectly fine to me. It could be that they are just pruning them, but I am not presuming anything after today's incident. Don't they need planning permission before chopping trees in a conservation area? Tomorrow the elmwood road trees are due to major works, Perhaps its worth investigating if you are around tomorrow, particularly tree surgeons who know a little about this. It would be such a shame to lose these trees. If you live on the Elmwood road even better. Perhaps you can let everyone on the forum who can come down support you on this. Or contact Grimswood and Toms on 0845 873 1500 to voice your complaint and try and stop this if it is unnecessary. Councillors, the council. Anyone?

  3. ok well personally i think that educationally its great, but emotionally and environmentally lacking in certain areas..... depends on whats important to you really. Best i can offer publicly. I know that my child is far happier in her new nursery, and far more expressive. hope this helps future parents considering this place without worrying those whose children are currently there.
  4. wow, I am amazed at peoples reluctance to appear rude, even when it comes to protecting their unborns. if there is one thing being a mother has taught me is assertiveness. When it comes to my child I always speak up. Luckily for me this kicked in as soon as I was pregnant. The words lion and cub spring to mind. Before my pregnancy I often shut up before I spoke up. Now I simply think of how he may be affected. Even now when we get on a bus I insist on him getting a seat and he is 3. The drivers drive erratically, and I want to make sure he is safe. I feel no way about it. I would if he ever got hurt.
  5. ha ha! me likes
  6. Trust your instincts on that one..... if in doubt, leave it out.... I think a rounded approach from the nursery is a good indicator, their emotional well being as well as everything else. Family run business can be a good thing, but staff turnover is a good indicator, and in family run business, people can stay their for longer than they might otherwise??? Also they can be less objective (fall into dynamics that are dificult to break). My little one went their for a long while..... i took him out and moved elsewhere.....It wasn't awful, but lets just say some are better than others.... maybe the non existent waiting list is a good indicator?

    saukekraut

Not according to my recipe, but then it acts as a treatment for healing the gut so maybe that's why..... each to their own i guess, sounds pretty foul to me to be honest, just hope my son likes it!

simple you shred cabbage add salt, put in glass or stainless steel bowl knead till enough water is produced to drown the cabbage, cover with plate leaving 1cm gap around sides, place something heavy on plate so cabbage is is emersed in the water, cover with towel and leave in dark place, for 5-7 days. if not enough water to fully emerse you can add some water to it. IF ONLY I'D DONE IT A WEEK AGO! enjoy! i've never had it, cant wait to try it myself. !

  14. My little boy has lost his scooter,...actually I have lost his scooter I think i forgot to put it in the car on lacon road at the end nearest to blue mountain cafe on friday afternoon. Its a blue micro scooter with pig police stickers on it and dolphins. He doesn't go anywhere without it, so has refused to leave the house since! if anyone has spotted it seemingly disgarded can you get in touch please? Its taking me ages to leave the house and ages to get anywhere, he misses it lots but i think i miss it more! Much appreciated.
