In my opinion, it doesn't go far enough and should include compulsory academies. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/thousands-of-parents-to-take-children-out-of-school-in-protest-over-stressful-exams-a7006666.html

This is just the start, they are planning to do the same with Brixton library also,....if you tolerate this, your local library could be next. It's an amazing atmosphere, go and support it if you can.

The numbers using the library have doubled in recent times. I think that as it is getting more expensive to study, libraries will become increasingly important in closing the gap between the rich And the poor. As more people are being priced out of London, if the few that remain use the library and it improves their life chances, than in my opinion, it's money Well spent. It's unjustifiable to sacrifice our pubic services In light of the tax evasion/ avoidance that amounts to billions...

From 17,000 books to 600......bit of a leap......

Maybe just a that it is not serving the working class, as Labour used to do, and as Jeremy does.

There was a proposal for the library to be run by the co,munity as it doesn't cost much to run. The council refused to meet and have not answered many vital questions. None of these cuts are necessary, so it isn't a case of ridding one to fund another. public services are being privatised or parts inaccessible unless you can pay (Battersea and possible peckham rye adventure play ground? I wouldn't be suprised if Go ape showed up there.....Wgatajoke, the hamlet stadium may be making room for 155 flats...... We are becoming like America. It sucks, and if we are too old and cynical to do something about it, the disaffected youth, with no where to go certainly will...

Maybe they are conscious of being sued. I know that the 1 o'clock club in myatts field stopped serving coffee because there was an incident in the local library with a hot drink and a child. The council were sued. Admittedly I have never been there with a buggy, it didn't seem a good idea as there isn't that much space to put it anywhere safely, as is the case in many cafes. I use cafes as a place to relieve myself from parenting, (and still do, which is probably one of the reasons why I like it there. Park cafes seem better equipped for that, so I would go there. I went to the chandelier yesterday, staff were friendly, decent service. I sat by the door, and did notice someone trying to enter with a pram being turned away, I even suggested that the pram be. Tucked beside my single seat, but staff declined, politely, (admittedly it wasn't ideal, but I was just trying to be accommodating). Maybe a sign would be an idea just explaining their situation, but other than that I think they are a decent cafe.

Good, glad to hear it first mate, their eggs royale and Benedictine are great, it's a great place to go for a relaxed breakfast. The service has always been nice and friendly when I have been there. Also I spoke to the owner once and mentioned cakes for people with allergies, and she listened and sorted it. She remembered me and approached me about it. I will always always visit an independent such as this rather than the chains. The saying if you don't like it tell us, if you do tell others is an important message, particularly for independent businesses who can really suffer with bad press. The fact that is being there for so long is a testament to the place I believe. Chains don't care about bad press, they can afford good marketing that will counteract it.

Thanks Bawdyman I think you are right about the ipad. However,I think he may balk at the idea of the kinnect, he may be a little too old for the games you mention, but I will take a look. Cheers

I agree Rupert James, Newham manage to do it, and still focus on the incentive to reduce car usage by charging for the 2nd car only...... Southwark couldn't respond to my question regarding this, their response was that Newham is rural! The borough is poorer, which may have been a consideration, or perhaps they really do want to reduce car usage.....either way, it's a much more considered approach https://www.newham.gov.uk/Pages/ServiceChild/Resident-parking-permits.aspx#Applyforaresidentparkingpermit

if it's so popular, why is there such an increase of cars parking in uncontrolled areas. To be honest if people oppose it and it is still introduced. Provided they can afford to pay the permit fee, then please just pay it. If you decide to park elsewhere to save the fee, you are just delaying an even bigger expense as you will eventually have to pay for your area, and any other neighbouring area that you visit. The parking companies win . They love it. We are then the losers. Judging by some of the expensive cars that park in unrestricted parking areas, such fees are affordable, They just chose to avoid them. I think it's fair enough if you can't afford the permit price, but if you can, cough up, it's shortsighted to think that you are onto a good thing. You are just pushing the problem out further.

That's exactly what they are doing. Tony Blair has recently talked about privatising schools. Enough is enough. ....what are we going to do about it? I think our childrens mental health is suffering because of these stresses. We can't just sit back and let it happen can we? I certainly can't watch our EDucation, our NHS, and our housing be decimated in this way.

Do we really want this for our children? http://timparamour.com/2016/03/07/the-story-of-the-teaching-crisis/

I have been holding out on the whole computer game craze, but my son does use my iPad which I think he is addicted to. So I am loathed to buy an Xbox. However, I have been informed that iPads are more addictive, and less easy to control the time spent on them as they are portable. Please let me know your experience please. Thanks

Meningitis B and Chicken Pox vaccines
bodsier replied to tarafitness's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Saffron, can you tell he why it is necessary for children to have a chicken pox vaccine? I always thought it was something most kids go through, granted bacterial complications can occur, but they are extremely rare, and it really only poses a problem for people with immune problems. even then isn't it highly unlikely to be problematic? My son has immune problems, and breathing difficulties, he also had chicken pox. Please enlighten me..... -

Hi I haven't looked at the booklist so apologies if I have duplicated this info. I highly recommend 'how to raise an emotionally intelligent child' by John Gottman. It's amazing how it works in practice. My child calms down I. Seconds when I apply it, and on top of that we also connect as he enjoys that I understand him. It helps him to label his emotions, and limits frustration. An excellent book in my mind.

Urgent advice needed nanny contract
bodsier replied to Attachmentmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My understanding of the words 'notwithstanding' means 'in spite of' meaning that the same notice applies in probationary period as well. However it sounds like the probationary period can be reviewed if it isn't a case of 'no longer needing a nanny'. For example the contract is between yourself and the nanny, would the fact that 'other parties' (boyfriend) were present without your consent constitute as a breach of contract? I have been an au pair in the past, and I wouldn't dream of including anyone else in a day's work without consent from my employer. -
