Have you looked at upcoming.org from the good folks at Yahoo! or Google Calendar? Both have a bunch of APIs that you can hook in to and display stuff on your site with.

Any way of using photos tagged East Dulwich from Flickr or similar? Perhaps a combination of tags e.g. East Dulwich + eastdulwichforum - then folk could submit photos for the (presumably) banner...

Haven't tried it for Sunday lunch yet but they've just 'palmerstoned' The Herne. Agreed with JohnS re The Rye and Franklins.
