  1. I heard that poor old long suffering husband John Burcow, is in India losing a lot of weight due to the stress of his wife a lethal mix Tory and Labour marriage.
  2. UDT Wrote ---------------------------------------------- Once you've heard proper St Lucian Patois then there is no contest. I beg to differ once you hear Jamaican, Patwa or some linguist call it Jamaican Creole is undisputed. And yes there is island rivalry at times Jamaicans tend to get a bad rap and are sometimes stereo typed too ;-)
  3. H Wrote --------------------------------------- Sorry UDT, you're simply wrong - a patois is any non-stamdard language. The etymology of the word is French There is a Jamaican Patois I have to say although it pains me to say this I do agree with H patois is a French word and it is spoken in some of the Caribbean islands but there is Jamaican Patwa that is distinctive to Jamaicans. My mother speaks it and so do only when I am taking the mickey out of her. Some people are not aware but most of the Caribbean Islands have there own dialect as well as speaking French and Spanish my mother?s generation where taught to speak Spanish at school so there is some truth about Jamaica being a Spanish colony.
  4. Brendan wrote --------------------------------------------- I'm refering to Prime Ministers of course. David Cameron agreed DJKQ I have been saying this on a few threads totally agree with you it is not just one issue there so many factors involved. I was quite surprised that Prince Charles picked up on this and David Cameron refuses to.

  9. SJ wrote -------------------------------------- look at it this way Ridgley - if you die and don't pass through the pearly gates, it won't matter because you won't be aware of it. You'll just be dead But if I pass through them, then truly I am f@@@ed as I won't believe what I'm seeing (before I get the boot) We shall see:))
  10. All depends in what he meant;-)
  11. I not forcing anyone you can shop where you like, I am just saying it is over priced and it not vaulue for money.
  12. I don?t think it is a black issue it a youth issue, as there were quite a few whites, and Asians that took part in the riots. I have seen over the years as 3rd generations of Blacks and Asians and the white populations have mixed and share there cultural differences there are a few White and Asians have adopted the West Indian style of speaking and some as gone as far as the American style rap look and culture. I feel that is due to the diversity living in London the whole language has evolved with young people the cockney which was spoken by white and black seems to be dying out and this Street/ West Indian slangs have been adopted. It is not Jamaican patwa Jamaicans do not speak like that they don?t even know most of slangs that are spoken. Can I also add that the Black culture has brought some richness in the English culture Modes in the sixties had a black twist to it Notting Hill Carnival West Indian food as an example.
  13. Like I said Loz never heard of any White Collar worker on the breadline, they still tend to live comfortably or they just go abroad.
  14. Yep totally agree with Dulwichfox overpriced goods that are not worth it. Love the picture of the stall DF
  15. Sue that fact that you said you can't always afford it prove my point, what is the point having a market just for a few and not for the many. Its seems there are people with more money than sense.
  16. Congratulation on your baby pup Shark Jaws:))
  17. You also find Loz that white collar worker, are quite wealthy so losing there position yes it is a form of embarrassment to them but they live quite well not heard of a lot of them on the poverty line like below a few examples. Will Strauss-Kahn The Hamilton?s Jeffrey Archer Maybe the Murdochs
  18. I must say it made my journey a lot shorter and less congested.
  19. There are stalls that do have tat and they are very over priced, the market does not really cater for a lot of people it is quite limited. As for your post in suggesting any stall ideas how about more exotic food stall Falafels are very popular I think that will go down very well. It a hit were I work in Brick Lane.
