  1. Has anyone else spotted the white lines painted on both sides of the road between Elsie Road and Grove Vale school ? It looks like the council are planning to widen the pavement in certain spots resulting in a narrowing of the road. I'd be interested in the reasons for doing this - especially in these austere times. Perhaps it is intended to decrease the likelyhood of accidents and increase safety on the approach to the school ?
  2. eucalyptus - regarding Iceland, the following is taken from their website. Caring about animal welfare Iceland adheres to a strict animal welfare policy. We work with our suppliers to ensure high standards of animal welfare based on the Five Freedoms endorsed by the Farm Animal Welfare Council: 1. Freedom from hunger and thirst by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour. 2. Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area. 3. Freedom from pain, injury or disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment. 4. Freedom to express normal behaviour by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind. 5. Freedom from fear and distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering. It's funny isn't it - I guess most consumers would assume non-organic/free-range chickens from M&S have a happier life than the same sold in Iceland (and they may be right). People assume this because of their perception of the brands involved and the prices they are paying, not - I suspect because of any hard evidence.
  3. I found these on an old thread. Dulwich fire station and crew at Dulwich Fire Station.
  4. Have you tried Software 4 Students ? Currently offering Office 2010 for ?38.95 - licence for two PC's. Only available to those with children in full time education - which I believe you do..
  5. FYI previous discussions on the subject here and here.
  6. This happened to us last week at some point during the day on Thursday. We've got a Peugeot 406 and again the drivers door was bent out creating a gap. Luckily we were able to bend it back. Nothing taken as nothing of value in the car. You should report it on 0300 123 1212 or at https://online.met.police.uk/.
  7. Today's post has just arrived. 2:30pm.
  8. Just a quick point of clarification silverfox, Ocado have a partnership with Waitrose but are not owned by them and therefore would not have any information on who bought what where.
  9. You can check here.
  10. P4 running OK. Picked one up from Dulwich Village and got off outside Brixton Tube. Victoria and Northen lines running OK, albeit overcrowded (but that's probably normal).
  11. I just passed a 37 on East Dulwich Grove heading towards Herne Hill so I guess that they are running and are no longer diverted.
  12. The Charter plans to open at 10:00am.
  13. The P13 goes much closer than the 363. Get off at Duwich College for the shortest walk to Kingsdale. About 10-15 mins walk from the bust stop I would think. Check the bus routes here.
  14. Thanks to all for the advice so far. We'll definitely be visiting Finches and TK Maxx.
  15. We're considering a skiing holiday next year in the February half-term. None of us - parents included - have ever been skiing before so I wondered if anyone out there had some advice as to the best place to go and/or stay. My children are aged 12 and 15. Apres ski nightlife is not a priority... and yes, I know it's not going to be cheap.
  16. The Search function is not working for me either. I typed "wardrobe" into the search box and clicked the search button. It says the search is running but then comes back with a blank screen with the following URL. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/search.php?9,search=wardrobe,page=1,match_type=ALL,match_dates=365,match_forum=ALL
  17. Southwark compost costs ?4.50 per 50 litre bag or ?12 for 3. Southwark Garden Waste

  20. Discussed before fairly recently. See this thread including comment by James Barber.
  21. If you suspect that the socket for the power lead is at fault then http://www.laptoprepair.co.uk/ will repair it for you, or failing that I'm sure they'd be able to diagnose the issue. Why not give them a call to find out the rough cost of a repair.
  22. James can you tell me who is responsible for the maintenance of traffic signal in the borough ? Is it TFL or Southwark ? I have complained to TFL about the traffic signal that filters the traffic right from the Old Kent Rd to Trafalger Avenue on more than one occassion and still nothing has been done. There are supposed to be two lights but one was damaged a while back and has never been repaired/replaced. The other is in a very poor state - the red light doesn't work and the green filter arrow has no shroud and the green glass has slipped so it shows the white light when its supposed to on green. I use this junction regularly as a cyclist but frankly the state of lights is dangerous for all road users. TIA
  23. Southwark Council's Abandoned Vehicles Form
  24. Has anyone had any experience of these units where you extend your ethernet cabling via your mains cabling ? There are several brands about and for reasons to complex to go into here I'm considering one of these rather than wireless but was interested to hear if anyone else had used one and whether or not they're any good. TIA
