  1. Does it really matter what colour the bins are ? If the council only offer 160 litre green bins then why not request three and use one as a green bin and the other two as blue and brown bins. So long as its made clear which bin contains what I'm sure the collection staff would be able to work it out !
  2. Thames Festival Road Closures
  3. Love him or loath him, I've always thought that Alvin Hall talks a lot of common sense when it comes to managing your own money. Why not try one of his books for starters - this one looks like the kind of thing you might need.
  4. There's another thread on this... http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,633697,633697#msg-633697
  5. This is Mrs ed_Pete replying. Our son had terrible MC when he was about 3/4 (I thought it was chicken pox at first) It got so bad we were referred to Kings, but as you say there is nothing they can prescribe for it and we just had to live with it for a while. It eventually did go and he has lovely skin all over now. He is 13 and would be mortified if he knew that his mother is posting on the ed forum that he has perfect skin! Don't worry it will go. (well that was my experience anyway, hope that helps)
  6. My wife got has had one of those on VM since January and no problems with reception so far, though she's not a heavy mobile user and most of its use has been within London.
  7. OK it's time to fess up. As a teenager I was something of a Stranglers obsessive and spent too much of what little money I had on their records, most of which, in the cold light of day were crap. Only saw them live once in about '82 at the Dominion. Always though they were bit of a sulky teenagers lad's band - so it's a revelation to find that they have some female admirers too. My top 5 tracks are: 1. Something Better Change 2. Grip 3. Go Buddy Go 4. Nice'n' Sleazy 5. Skin Deep Live 'X' cert remains a classic.
  8. I don't want to be a wet banket but I thought that most schools so-called catchment areas are based on what Southwark regard as safe walking distance to school rather than as-the-crow-flies and therefore the map is invalid. Perfectly happy to be corrected though.
  9. From Money Saving Expert. Free Family and Friends Railcard offer http://www.familyandfriends-railcard.co.uk/dailymail
  10. Feeling community-spirited I lent my electric hot-air paint stripper gun to a forumite back in January. After a month they hadn't returned it so I prompted them with an PM. They replied that it has stopped working and offered to buy a replacement - even sent a link to a similar model on the B&Q website. Feeling generous I said that wouldn't be necessary and said ?15 would settle it. This was back in early March and in spite of more PM's promising they would deliver the cash but needed to know when I was in rather than post it through the letterbox in case "a dog ate it" (I kid you not), I have received nothing. I have lent other stuff in the past without a hitch but am now feeling reluctant to do so in future.
  11. Highly unlikely that you'd get in, in my experience, I'm not aware of many or any people that live on the eastern side of Lordship Lane that have gotten into the Hamlet - hence the popularity of Heber and Goodrich. We have friends that live in Trossachs Road who's son didn't get offered a place and has gone on the waiting list. No harm in ringing the school and asking them about the catchment area though. Have you tried looking on Southwark's schools website ? They ususally have a Primary Schools entrance brochure and publish the highest distance to the school for offered places.
  12. I would recommend either Tanner Farm Park or Palace Farm, neither of which is too far away. Facilities are better at Tanner Farm but it is a larger site and therefore you would expect them to be, no campfire though. Owners at both are IMO a bit grumpy. Forgewood OK but a bit basic and, again IMO, a bit over priced for what they're offering.
  13. If you don't like the way this forum is run then start your own. End of discussion.
  14. How did the Hamlet get on?
  15. Probably a battery-farmed chicken.
  16. Could be a coincidence but there was a police car parked outside the house this morning.
  17. From the website: How do refunds and resales work if I decide I don't want my tickets? You should consider your budget very carefully when applying for tickets. Once your application is processed you cannot cancel, change or return the tickets you are allocated. When you apply, the maximum amount you could be charged will be made clear to you and you'll need to have sufficient funds available to cover this. Customers will have the opportunity to resell their tickets at face value through the official London 2012 resale programme in 2012. This will be the only authorised way to buy tickets from people offering their tickets for resale. Further details will be announced in early 2012.
  18. ?200 I'm OK with but the top price for my chosen event is ?450 and that takes a family of four price to ?1800 for 80 minutes of action. Sorry, once in a lifetime maybe, but that's too much for me.
  19. ...don't bother applying unless you've can pay by Visa as it's the only accepted method of payment. I find the whole ballot thing irritating as well. I'd like to go and see some of the swimming but if I don't get tickets for the day I've chosen I'd like to have the opportunity to have picked another day/event. The only way I can do this is by applying for lots of days/events but then I could get more than I wanted / could afford. There ought to be a way of ranking the application (a bit like the schools app. process) so that you can apply for many events in order of importance. The cheapest tickets for the swimming event I've chosen are ?50 so that's ?200 for the family + ?6(!) booking fee.
  20. As an aside, and this needs to be ratified by James B, but I believe the service of removing of untaxed vehicles was going to be dropped by the council as part of their budget cuts.
  21. Has anyone else spotted the white lines painted on both sides of the road between Elsie Road and Grove Vale school ? It looks like the council are planning to widen the pavement in certain spots resulting in a narrowing of the road. I'd be interested in the reasons for doing this - especially in these austere times. Perhaps it is intended to decrease the likelyhood of accidents and increase safety on the approach to the school ?
  22. eucalyptus - regarding Iceland, the following is taken from their website. Caring about animal welfare Iceland adheres to a strict animal welfare policy. We work with our suppliers to ensure high standards of animal welfare based on the Five Freedoms endorsed by the Farm Animal Welfare Council: 1. Freedom from hunger and thirst by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour. 2. Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area. 3. Freedom from pain, injury or disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment. 4. Freedom to express normal behaviour by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind. 5. Freedom from fear and distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering. It's funny isn't it - I guess most consumers would assume non-organic/free-range chickens from M&S have a happier life than the same sold in Iceland (and they may be right). People assume this because of their perception of the brands involved and the prices they are paying, not - I suspect because of any hard evidence.
  23. I found these on an old thread. Dulwich fire station and crew at Dulwich Fire Station.
  24. Have you tried Software 4 Students ? Currently offering Office 2010 for ?38.95 - licence for two PC's. Only available to those with children in full time education - which I believe you do..
