I saw this advertised in Time Out recently and passed it on to a friend of mine who's recently been made redundant. I may be of interest to you. http://www.careershifters.org/london-workshop

Seem to be clearing it up from the garden on a daily basis due to the number of cats in the vicinity. Any sensible and proven deterrent ideas - and I don't want a cat or a dog (or any other animal for that matter).

I'm a commuting cyclist myself and I don't want to open up the whole cyclist vs other road users debate, however I have to admit I was somewhat amused by a cycle courier I came up behind on Gresham St this evening whose calves where tattooed: (L) ® F T U A C X K I S

Seconded - I've used them a few times and they've always been reliable and friendly regardless of the time of night!

Yeah - I'm with John on this one, there obviously a massive conspiracy taking place with corrupt officials being entertained with escorts, illegal drugs and brown envelopes stuffed with cash. Quick someone, called the Guardian and Channel 4 !

106 Lordship Lane planning application - Refused
ed_pete replied to KalamityKel's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hear, hear SJ, given the choice between an empty premise and one that's providing employment, buying from other businesses and paying taxes, I know which one I'd prefer to see. How's the economy ever going to get back on it's feet if entrepreneurs are discouraged from starting new businesses ? OK - I don't know if that's actually the case in this instance but you get the gist. Bear in mind that anyone can comment on a planning application, not just the statutory consultees. -
Charity to rescue very sick fox cub?

As the fox is a wild animal and not an endangered species, surely the best option is simply to let nature takes its course. Isn't this just natural selection ? -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
ed_pete replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sue - you can join the City of London libraries for free even if you do not live or work in the City, though you would need to make a trip to collect your membership card from one of the three library sites. They have an e-library scheme. http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/services/libraries-and-archives/lending-libraries/join-a-library/Pages/default.aspx -
You can check the make and model from the registration here http://www.autotrader.co.uk/vehiclecheck Looks like its a GREY, 2012 SKODA SUPERB ELEGANCE TFSI S-A 5 DOOR HATCHBACK Hope that helps.

I have to admit I have some sympathy with the OP. How many of you would really be happy with someone operating a noisy car cleaning business outside of your house or flat ? I've got no beef with the guy trying to make a legitimate buck but businesses should operate where they have permission to do so. Why should this guy get away with operating without the overheads of a business premises ? How would you feel if you were the owner of the car cleaning business at the end of Chesterfield Grove ? And in what way is a static car valenting business similar to window cleaners, postmen and milkmen ? TED weren't you the one complaining about a skip in your road not long ago ? A touch of NIMBY-ism ?

Just had a text from VM to say that the fault F002500949 is fixed. Not sure if this was the same fault everyone else had - I'm not far from Dulwich Hospital.

Depends on how strong you're feeling and what tools you have. You'd probably find that a few (:)) hefty swings with a sledgehammer would crack it more and then you could use a crowbar to lever it up in bits. If you don't feel like doing it yourself then I'm sure one the handyman services that are recommended on this forum could do it for you. Bear in mind removal: you'd need to take the broken up concrete to the Southwark tip (Old Kent Road) for disposal or you could hire a small skip but that would probably prove very expensive. Sledgehammers and crowbars can be hired fairly cheaply from hire shops or you may be able to borrow them from another formumite.

Very Old Pic (Apparently it's an East Dulwich house)
ed_pete replied to jimbo1964's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There are several houses on Underhill Road that look like this - this view was the best I could get from Streetview which is not square-on. Anyway, if it's not one of these then it looks very similar and was probably built by the same builder ? Note the terracotta ridge tiles on the left hand house look the same. -

Contact details are on the Charity Commission site to which you have linked above - have you tried those ?
-
John ? you?ve highlighted the fact that the EDS have ?5k but frankly so what ? If you think they are embezzling or squandering the money then why not come out and say so ? If you have an issue with the EDS then why not write to the Charity Commission I would have thought that?s far more likely to be effective than throwing stones on the EDF.

Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 23/7
ed_pete replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Isn't the Co-operative a democracy ? It says on their website "Democracy ? we give our members a say in the way we run our businesses" I'm a member and I don't recall being asked as to whether or not I thought it was good idea to extend their opening hours. Personally I don't live close by and I doubt very much that I'd use it between 11pm and 7pm (past my bedtime) and to be honest I doubt that many others will either. Pity the staff who work there after the pubs and bars close on Friday/Saturday. And jeez, give James a break - how many of you would even be aware of this issue if he hadn't highlighted it in the first place ? -

Best route to QPR / Shepherds Bush?
ed_pete replied to ruffers's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ruffers - Trish is right with the best options. I usually go LB, Jubilee and Central line. Bit of a schlep but usually less than an hour. Caught a train from North Dulwich on Saturday about 13:45 and was walking out of White City by about 14:40.
