  1. My daughter is catching an early flight from Southend Airport next week and needs to be there before the first trains arrive from Liverpool Street. Any suggestions as to the best way to get there, other than a minicab or I drive her myself ? It doesn't look there's a coach service.
  2. ken78 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > is nunhead village getting better than east > dulwich, looks like it getting better every week Still don't have their own forum though. Besides, having lived in villages for a significant percentage of my life I can honestly say that neither Nunhead or any of other Estate Agents "villages" are remotely like the real thing.
  3. Near Alleyns so unlikely to be related.
  4. I know VM get a lot of bad press but they did well last night. We noticed smoke coming from the street box over the road from our house at about 7:30 coinciding with a loss of broadband. Thought we'd better call the Fire Service who turned up 5 minutes later. They called Virgin Media and waited until the smoke stopped. Virgin Media turned up by 9:30, fixed the problem (power supply issue) and normal service was resumed by 10.
  5. You're out of luck there - that's going to be a primary school. London Overground goes to Canada Water (Surrey Quays) from Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye. Quicker but not free like the buses are for teenagers.
  6. Depending on where you work and commute to perhaps you could start with just hiring a Boris bike each day to get used to cycling around the central London part. You could try in the Wanted section - there's bound to be someone out there with a bike that they don't use that regularly that would be willing to lend it for a week. You could also try the Southwark Cyclists forum - I think they have guides that will accompany you into/out of London. http://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/
  7. No doubt this has been said before but as I am currently in a hotel it's really grating. Waiters and waitresses that say "enjoy". Grr

I assume that you include yourself in "Some people" - wasn't it you that started the thread on the East Dulwich Deli closing and suggesting what might move in instead ?
  10. Personally I'd like to pay more for my burger, ?12 is not enough. If there were fewer shops selling cheap burgers then perhaps we be rid of some of the East Duwlich riff-raff.
  11. Looks like it: http://www.harrods.com/content/the-store/restaurants/east-dulwich-deli
  12. Grade II listed - I don't think so...
  13. Otta - didn't you go to Haberdashers ? Just want to be sure you're not biased. In the spirit of transparency, my children go to the Charter.

D'you think she's got a vajazzle or does William prefer a hollywood ? *I'll get me coat*
  15. The madness continues - ?425k for a one bed garden flat in need of modernisation... http://www.pedderproperty.com/Property/Residential/for-sale/London/East-Dulwich/Elsie-Road/PWS28819.aspx
  16. Progress seems to have stalled. The house was demolished a while back but there no activity on building its replacement. Anyone with any insight to what's happening ?
  17. If you have an aerial and not a dish then you'll be picking up Freeview not Freesat. DVB channels are Freeview as I understand it.
  18. Ah well, if you want to compare properties in different areas... http://www.winkworth.co.uk/sale/property/flat-for-sale-in-oakhurst-grove-london-se22/DUL140122 vs http://www.smithsgore.co.uk/property-for-sale-appleby-in-westmorland-3489116
  19. You need a slimport adapter. One end plugs into your Nexus 7 via the micro USB port and the other end has a socket for an HDMI cable. If you don't have spare HDMI cable then you'll need one of those as well. Slimport adapters seem to vary in cost - maybe buy one from Amazon and send it back within 7 days if it doesn't work/works badly. 20. When are they getting their own forum ?
  21. I'm another Humax fan. Best deals are from Humax Direct http://www1.humaxdirect.co.uk/Direct/ProdCat/freeview?sc=hd&ck=factory - check out the Manangers Specials. You can get a 500GB box for ?139, or a 1TB box for ?159. If you pay a bit more you can get a YouView compatible box that includes iPlayer/4OD/ITV Player etc with 7 day catch up (presuming you have a decent broadband connection and are able to use a wired connection).
  22. Yes James - someone posted last week that there had been attempted bike jackings/muggings on the stretch where the lights are currently not working. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1254709
  23. Oh Bollocks - I thought this was about property prices between Herne Hill and Brixton.
  24. Sorry to hear about your experience and glad you are OK. For years I used to cycle this route and it seemed that every year some section of lights would fail and I always felt vulnerable until they were fixed again, especially if I was cycling outside of core rush hour time in the evening. There's been many an occassion when I have made sure I'm either in front or behind another cyclist so give me the comfort of safety in numbers. If you haven't already done so report the fault to the Council ( [email protected] ). They will fix them eventually. Perhaps copy in one of your local councillors and outline what happened to you - this might hasten the repair. Personally I'm avoiding this route for the time being, though this was mainly brough about by the bridge works that have closed the path at times. I skip past the left turn off Trafalgar Avenue, go over the bridge and turn right down Sumner Road. There's more traffic to contend with but at least its well lit. ETA (too slow - see jonsuissy goes the same way as me..)
  25. I think the OP meant the Constitutional Club They have one in Lewes too SJ - looks more happenin' than SE22's http://www.lewesconclub.com/
