  1. ClaireClaire - having had two children go through GCSE's at the Charter I can agree that it's confusing. In the past children have been streamed into three pathways - let's call them high, medium, and low. Children in high and medium pathways take Methods and Applications separately, as you have discovered, which counts as a double GCSE for the pupil. The lower group take a single maths paper. The foundation paper allow the maximum of a C grade whereas with the higher the maximum is A*. If you want any further information I'd encourage you to contact Mr Williams who is head of KS4 at the Charter and/or Dr Todd who is the Curriculum Leader for Maths. 2. Does your daughter still have an O2 contract - if so you should be able to get them to do it for free. Otherwise you could get a PAYG SIM and then O2 will charge ?15 to unlock it. http://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-and-devices/unlocking-your-iphone-and-using-it-on-another-network#qs
  3. I use OpenDNS (it's free) and have done for years very reliably. It's very easy to set up the only thing is you need to be able to configure your DNS server which may be too techie for you. You can probably do this on the tablet (and hope your daughter doesn't know how to remove it) or on your router. Most routers - even from ISP's have an option to change the default DNS server. If you google "Change DNS server " you'll find that someone has written some instructions somewhere. http://www.opendns.com/home/
  4. Whilst on the subject of Maths, 60 out of 90 is not 75% it's 66.66%.

They are designed to be much quieter than traditional valves.
  8. Congratulations to my daughter who received her A-level results today achieving A*, A and B grades and has secured her place at Birmingham University. Congratulations to my daughter's friends who have also done extremely well. And thanks to the Charter for being such a great school.

  14. My bad - what's wrong with my mistake ?

  16. That's a Hosta. Absolutely loved by slugs and snails. I've tried all the tricks for these: copper rings, grit, coffee grounds, egg shells, beer traps. Slug pellets are still the best though, IMO.
  17. One of my Heuchera's is having its leaves munched by something. Unlikely to be slugs (slug pellets abound). Can't see any caterpillers. Possibly the dreaded vine weevil ? If anyone knows the most likely cause and the best solution it'd be much appreciated.
  18. ebay - less than a fiver delivered.
  19. My daughter's been on Tesco for a year now. No problems at all and very good value.

I saw Skylight last night. Excellent. A great script and really well acted, (especially cooking the ragu). You'll love it.
