my 11 yr old has a small one for playing his games console with (since age 8), he very rarely watches the actual telly on it(no cable and poor picture). I expect he will more as he gets older and can't bear to be with us! He's not allowed to play computer games after 6pm on a school day and I try to balance weekend overuse with dragging him out for walks etc. I think it is all a matter of moderation.

If you are not checking the kids' feet how do you know that the amount of children with verrucae that go swimming without protective socks is shocking? Gyms and changing rooms all over are rife for spreading verrucae as moist or cracked skin is more susceptible to the virus. It is generally children and teenagers that get them anyway which is why a school has lots. My son goes to school in the village and has never had any of the ailments you mention, so I do have a degree of experience in the field. It is your inverted snobbery that I get irritated by. Worms and headlice have no class barriers and I don't think it is worse there than anywhere else.
