Woman murdered in East Dulwich this week
hellosailor replied to tomskip's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I?ve also taken the relative silence as people not knowing what to say or not knowing quite what has happened. For the sake of clarification, Beatrice who was 36, worked at The French Cafe and was a wonderfully warm and welcoming presence there, was murdered at home last week. her colleagues at the cafe who were her good friends are understandably utterly devastated. Beatrice was a very loving single mother to a daughter at a local primary who has additional needs and learning support and I would imagine will also need specialist emotional support now having been at home when this horrific event unfolded. Beatrice?s ex husband was also present at the scene and is in custody. Police are not making enquiries about anyone else. Beatrice?s mother will now raise her granddaughter and the French Cafe are raising money to help her because with the little girl?s existing needs and the further support she will undoubtedly need now, that will be a real challenge financially. You can either donate in the cafe where they have a collection pot or via the bank details on the other thread which I will seek out and cut and paste below in a minute. Are GPs overworked or not interested?
hellosailor replied to Pugwash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ah, ok that makes sense if lots of posts have been removed! I thought ianr was comparing the situation described in the OP as like a teenager wanting a prescription for spot cream. -

I don?t understand. Have some posts been removed? This seems a total non sequitur....? ianr Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So what is it you want for Jonny's spotty nose? > Triage, or allowing his mother to refer him to a > consultant dermatologist? -
TJ Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Gets busy at school drop off and collection time > due to the school. Parents who live 300 yards away > still seem to insist on driving. This is total balls. No one who lives 300m from the school drives. It is busier for the 10 minute period of school drop off but Even then it?s not that busy and it?s only for 10 minutes. I have quite a few friends who live on Dunstans and I live round the corner. It?s a really lovely bit of ED to live in.

Alice, put aside for a moment the fact that you feel that the local police may have been dealing with something more pressing than the attempted murder of a young woman - he strangled her with force for 30 seconds and smashed her head against a wall - are you saying that when they finished dealing with the more urgent crimes that were happening locally last night then it?s still reasonable that they?re not interested in the cold light of day? If he had attempted to rape her and she had managed to fight him off in the nick of time or he had stabbed her but she was now stable and back at home, would you still be saying that the police making no effort to investigate was appropriate on the grounds that she was no longer in immediate danger and the crime was not ?ongoing?? Your response is genuinely baffling
-
Although luckily my friend was able to escape and was no longer in imminent danger, the next person he strangles may not escape. It most certainly is a cause for concern that a man with a compulsion to strangle a woman walking in daylight with her child is not being sought by the police. It wasn?t an attempted mugging or a mobile phone theft, he tried to strangle her so forcefully that she has bruises on her neck and burst capillaries and fingernail marks, photographs of which should be being taken by the police but are not. It may be that he is on some substance that makes him have violent impulses, it may be that he has mental health issues or it may be that he has a sexual urge that impels him to strangle passers by but that will never be known if the police can?t be bothered to investigate. so we cannot say that the crime is not ongoing and the danger is ?finished? as we don?t know if or when he will violently attack someone again. So the police response is completely inadequate. alice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > With all the police cuts hard decisions have to be > made. My friend was walking up wood vale with her 10 year old son at 8:45 tonight when out of the blue a young man started shouting at them and then grabbed her by the neck and startled strangling her with significant force. Her son ran away to try to get help and after a few seconds the man loosened his grip to take a deep breath himself and my friend managed to get out of his grip. She describes him as in his 20s, black, in a tracksuit and well presented, wearing a black cap and with a black AirPod in one ear. He didn?t smell of booze or obviously present as being under the influence of anything substance wise and it was totally random seemingly. She has called the police who aren?t particularly interested and say they will send someone round in due course to take a statement. She asked me to post to warn others to be vigilant. Thanks

I believe she?s been found xx

Hi sunny, you?ve just moved to the area presumably? Whereabouts in ED do you live? That will most likely be the deciding factor of you mean state schools?

East Dulwich Charter year 7 intake size
hellosailor replied to newbestfriend's topic in The Family Room Discussion
There are several hundred primary school places where the nearest secondary school is Charter ED. I believe Charter ED is 93% over subscribed. So the catchment isn?t expanding anytime soon , in fact, realistically, ever. There may be more places added to the intake imminently but the sibling places will increasingly kick in to counteract that. It?s true that by year 6 primary classes are not full due to people moving away or moving their kids to private school in years 4/5/6, but the number of charter ED places will still be far far less than the number of children applying. Year 6 classes at primary schools have never been full, it?s not a new development. -

garages2018 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Too many scooters around Lordship lane waiting to > deliver food. > Possible to do with delivery area's Do you mean you think it likely that it was a dispute between competitive Deliveroo riders? Because that seems a very unlikely conclusion to jump to.

You make a good point, the school coaches only take 25 mins to make the journey as they?re doing it so early. Most arriving at school by 8:00. If you?re a parent driving your child yourself leaving home considerably later then it would be very different. So it could indeed be a stressful 3 years from reception to year 3 when you are deemed old enough for a coach place.
-
Jags, alleyns and Dulwich college run numerous coach routes from all over London to the schools. Pupils can get a space on a coach from year 3. The Greenwich coach, for example, stops at various points in Greenwich between about 7:20 and 7:30 and takes about 25 mins to get to school. Then leaves at 4pm and takes the same amount of time on the return journey. It has been this way for decades with these schools, with more routes added year on year. About 40% of pupils from these schools live several miles away, it?s always been the case. X

Genuine question - In what has the demographic changed and less year 7 kids living in ED will be applying to Charter ED going forwards? I don?t understand the reasoning?

I don?t understand how this would work tho? You?re saying that the secondary schools should give priority to the children at their nearest primary? Regardless of whether those kids are the ones living closest as the crow flies to the school? Even if they?ve moved miles away since their kids started primary school? Do you think they would be fairer? So if you got your kids into a primary school and moved a couple of miles away during the primary years, the fact that they attend the primary school geographically nearest to your favoured secondary school should mean they?re prioritised? I think that would be extremely controversial. Monkey hi!
