I find the whole thing an irritating publicity stunt which is doing nothing to help the already struggling image of breastfeeding in the public view. There was an item on the lunchtime news yesterday (PR mission accomplished) with vox pops of various ordinary people on street responding with variations on the "eugh / disgusting / hahaha " line. It's such a cheap trick.

The wooden circle outdoor playgroup
kittysailing replied to kittysailing's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi circle people - I've been up in the loft in search of picnic type blankets. Alas I only found a couple. Could people keep their eyes out at jumble / sales / parents garages etc - it would be nice to have enough to fill the circle. Ta x -

Thanks for the endorsement! Will let you know how it goes. -

The wooden circle outdoor playgroup

Hi fushia I have thought about safety and yes the section I'm suggesting we use is fenced off. The idea is that it's a stay and play informal gathering meaning the parent to child ratio will be very high. -

Toddler activities in the afternoons
kittysailing replied to Lovenest's topic in The Family Room Discussion
A few local mums are setting up an informal outdoor playgroup once a month in Warwick Gardens, the Peckham end of Bellenden Road. First gathering Thursday 14th April from 2pm. All welcome. Free! -
Myself and a couple of local mums are talking about setting up an 'outdoor playgroup' once a month at the wooden circle in Warwick Gardens. Would anyone be interested in coming? Or indeed in helping to organise things? We were thinking of taking lots of picnic blankets, a box of toys, some flasks of tea, a picnic, some bunting and some babies & toddlers! I've go the go-ahead from the council. We plan to hold the first gathering on Thursday April 14th from 2pm. The idea is to kick things off with a teddy bears picnic, a few songs and a bear-themed story! All welcome!

I appreciate what you are trying to do. The problem lies in your reference to dastardly deeds and foul play - this simply serves to detract from the issue you clearly care about.

Seriously, Emily, as an outsider reading this thread you are not doing yourself or the school any favours.

Shh dont tell everyone this area shenley/crofton/talfourd/denman/lyndhurst was described to me as 'the toastrack' by an estate agent - great for familes with Warwick Gardens, the villa and bellenden at one end and the new gallery cafe at the other. 5 minutes to Peckham Pulse 15 minutes to Lordship Lane, Goose Green and Peckham Rye. Very well connected bus and train wise. Feels like even though you have kids you haven't completely given up your own life .. cocktails at funkey monkey anyone... -

Can anyone recommend a taxi firm for me and Bubs?
kittysailing replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
hi ruth For Black Cabs I always use 02075615090 you can book (and pay) the night before - always bang on time black cabs. Camberwell Cars take your carseat back to their office but its a bit of a pain picking it up. x -

Hi I usually do a Jamie's salmon starter - dead easy and quick but really tasty. Basically smoked salmon on a bed of watercress with a horseradish, craime fraiche and lemon juice dressing. Served on a big platter with crusty bread and butter. Yum.

Recommendations for a paediatrician
kittysailing replied to kittysailing's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks ladies for all your advice ans stories. Very reassuring. The overiding feeling seems to be - they all get there in the end! -
Our one year old little boy has dropped 4 centiles since he was born and our health visitor has referred us to a dietician. He's happy and healthy and meeting all his milestones but we feel we'd like some reassurance from a paediatrician to rule out any underlying issues. We've been told it could take up to eight weeks and are considering paying for a consultation with a private paediatrician. Has any one got any experience of this - are their specific ones who specialise in weight gain? How much should we expect to pay? Are we then stuck in the private system? I fluctuate between my own instinct which is telling me he's just a very active little monkey with a fast metabolism and the anxiety of wondering if there is an underlying issue which needs to be explored. All advice from you lovely wise ladies welcome!
