Dear all As you can appreciate the weather is really bad, during the day when they were clearing snow it became a wasted exercise as snow kept falling. Last night I had teams out at 1am and 4am to clear as much ice as possible, the problem that I have even after clearing is that it keeps re freezing, causing even more problems. I have just requested some special ice melt substance which my team have just picked up and they are currently going around the routes checking all stations. In addition to trying to run a service my platform staff are also trying to clear as much of the ice as possible. Trust me we are doing all we can to ensure your safety when entering the stations In relation to the "Southern Journey Checker" I can now confirm that the feed comes from NRE (national rail enquiries)from a base in Leeds to all Train Operating Companies. It has been confirmed that the cables have been severed and they are currently working connecting a new IP Adress at Doncaster so this service can resume, unfortunately this will take some time. The latest updates from our control centre is that a near normal service will run for the entire day for London Bridge/Victoria Metro, ie Battersea, West Norwood, Dulwiches etc, agian Sussex Coast services from Brighton/Victora are severly disrupted and have many many cancellations and delays. Those planning to travel to other areas of the country ie someone mentioned Cardiff, I would check with the relevant train operating company for information London Bridge, will run a near normal service right throughout the evening however for those using Capital Connect (Tulse Hill, Streatham) please be aware they have many cancellations and lastly SouthEastern services from London Bridge this evening will start to run the sevices down from 2000hrs Again accept my apologies on behalf of Southern Railway for the inconvenience and issues being faced. Good evening This is my last update, I am ready for my bed been up since 430am and another early start tomorrow. Trains are severly affected for Sussex coast, metro area trains are running, some cancellations and delays but london bridge remains operational till end of service However, with these freezing temperatures predicted tonight, I honestly believe that tomorrow morning will be chaotic! Network rail will run ghost trains tonight to keep routes open for the morning, I strongly suggest checking Southerns website first thing. I will update also in the morning I have teams out at 1am to clear snow and another team out at 4am, East Dulwich is first on list and is also having paths cleared as I write this. It has been at times today, a losing battle clearing platforms Barry Jones Station Manager -

Sorry for delay London Bridge is open and Southern Metro services do have some delays and a few cancellations, this is not on the scale we are suffering on the Sussex Coast. Glad to say you can get beack to Peckham ED etc London Bridge is actually quiet (would you believe) as I think a lot of passengers have headed home early, our opinion is that many went home around 2pm after seeing the snow continuing to fall Not sure what else I can say at the moment however, South Eastern are running their services down from 2000hrs and their last service is 2128. My opinion is that Southern will keep going for as long as possible. I can answer any quieries through then personal messages through my Blackberry, I really need to be out with my staff supporting them. This page on the forum will remain on and I will keep looking from time to time and update any else I have throughout the peak Barry -

Dear all First of all the last few postings are being looked at and apologise for inconvenience. Unfortunately I will not be posting now for a while due to unforseen circumstances and some holiday I need to take. I am able to pick up PM messages via my Blackberry after the 4th January if anyone wishes to raise a serious concern or issues which I will pass onto my management team to rectify. I will have one last look in on Christmas Eve just to make sure all ok, although I am sure you will be up to much nicer things! I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous 2010. Lastly to thank you for your patience and understanding since I started posting here on the East Dulwich Forum during 2009! Best wishes Barry Jones Station Manager London Bridge & Streatham Hill Area

Good evening, really sorry but the news is not good in relation to tomorrow's service. The issue again are the points, this snow fall and then the thaw will not help when the temperatures drop again tonight. Network rail will be out all night trying to sort this as quickly as possible Southern currently working on a revised time table, I will endeavour to post as early as I can depending on what time I get home tonight. So sorry folks Barry
-
Hi Should be ok, the issue tonight is points failures at london bridge, Apologies again to all customers, I appreciate the difficulties you are facing! I will keep you updated as best as I can via my BlackBerry. Station currently closed due to sheer volumes of passengers Barry
-
Dear all and hopefully you will get this For those travelling from London Bridge try to find alternative ways of getting home for the time being, we have major disruption due to six sets of points into the station failing. A lot of services are cancelled and subject to severe delays. Network Rail working to rectify as quickly as possible Apologies barry

Eileen, you misread the posting, it is announced at the stations on the platforms Barry

Good evening All stations have been treated again this evening. I have also instructed my maintenance team to start at 3am to ensure all stations are treated again in time for the morning peak.please also note due to these icy conditons there are some slight changes to the southern timetable. Please refer to southern website, this mainly affects the Sussex coast services Barry
-
Thanks for this! All platforms and walkways have been treated, the unfortunate worry is that it keeps freezing over I have just made some calls and all stations will be done again in the next couple of hours. Please bear in mind it will take that long to get around the 15 stations and mobilise staff Barry

Good Morning Just to inform you that the extra speakers at East Dulwich have now been installed. Some feedback would be appreciated just to ensure that things are better up there regards Barry

Good afternoon You may have read that Southern staff intend to strike on Monday 28th December. As a management team we are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that we run some services on this day. Once all plans have been finalised I will post accordingly Sorry about this! Barry
-
Hi Just received a communication that the new speakers for East Duwlich will be installed Friday and the remaining will be tested at the same time Barry

Hi I can only apologise about the queues at Peckham, unfortunately the gate staff are purely for assisting passengers, ie train information and ensuring the smooth operation of the gates. During the mornings I have two ticket office staff and part of their duties is to maintain the ticket machines, when these malfunction it is their job to ensure they are put back into operation as quickly as possible. These staff members start between 6am and 630am and do not stop for a break untill after the morning peaks where one window is closed to facilitate this, I wouldnt employ someone to just cover breaks which I am sure you can appreciate. There will be some organisational restructuring in the next few months and it is my intention to train the gate line staff to sell tickets from a small portable machine. Currently all of my gating staff are temps untill April 2010. Lastly I hope to see a significant reduction in queueing once Pay As You Go is introduced on the 2nd January, as I have said in previous posts, all stations will be monitored closely and if no reductions are evident then I will go back to the drawing board Barry
