SMBJones replied to davewines's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Sophia is right, I wouldnt do that......I would not leave you without seating, they have been removed in preperation for the new ones being put in place, in total 12 new benches, plus the new additional shelter which is now on order Kind regards Barry davewines Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Has anyone noticed how it seems that on Platform 1 > (London Bridge bound) of the East Dulwich train > station they seem to have replaced the seating > (excellent) but have forgotten to replace the ones > other than under the covered area (not excellent). > This results in about 5 less benches in connection > with an upgrade of others. Vick/Plimsoul I have arranged a meeting with Network Rail to discuss this. However this can not take place until after my annual leave, I will be returning Monday 19th July and will update that week I will not be posting now until my return Regards Barry Vik Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Completely agree with the above post, the sound > of an angle grinder, cutting through track outside > your bedroom window at 3am is not a pleasent way > to be woken up. Hi I am onto this now with Network Rail, however I am sure they only did a short term fix and the main works are due to be carried out this month. I will get some clarification. As for holidays, I finish this Friday and wont be back until Monday 19th July, please note no postings will be answered during that week Barry plimsoul Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > hi barry > > are you away? good holiday? if you are sorry to > message whilst you're off but... > > back to the horrendous screeching trains. could > you find out what is happening with regards these, > is it a pipe dream to think that they could be > made quieter? i never would have got my hopes up > if it hadn't been mentioned on the forum... > > the work that started at 3 am this weekend to > change track has not made any difference (by > estate/ivanhoe road) and the previous post that > confirmed that oil gauge or the like that is meant > to stop or help wheels from screaming cannot be > full/working as the trains are worse than ever. > > again, i only got my hopes up due to what i have > read here. i'd just like to know if it's a pipe > dream! thanks.

Good morning, very busy week hence no replies on forum.... This is my last task of the day as been beavering away all morning in my office and then I am off to enjoy some sunshine! Moos I have been assured that the clock is in full working order, I spoke with staff member personally. Let me know if this is still a problem Jeremy I am looking into the short formations, can only apologise, Jeremy/Skidmarks Please be assured that announcements were being made (frequency I don?t know), the difficulty we have is that I have no control over the team in the "Control Point" that facilitate the announcements and program the boards. In saying that I will speak with Network Rail and ask for a meeting to discuss the issues faced by Southern Passengers. I had my Station Manager and Duty Manager on duty plus all station staff was on duty and did as much as they could under the very trying day with the disruption. One of our main issues was that drivers were stuck on trains and could not get into London Bridge causing more delays. We are also about to embark on a new project at Southern "Passenger Information During Disruption" I had a meeting yesterday with the project manager and all staff are about to be briefed. This will ensure that you the passenger are fully updated on severe disruption more effectively (come at the right time by the sound of it) BlooNoo Trains can close doors up to 30 seconds prior to departure time, however one minute is unacceptable and I have forwarded your comments to the relevant manager Timster (I will answer your point, although others have commented) Blowing whistles..... I will instruct staff to step away from crowded areas as to ensure eardrums are not being damaged. However... if the staff did not do this then this would cause delays to trains, I don?t want to get into a debate on this although my comments will surely create one. I am caught between the devil and the deep blue sea on this! We as a company have performance targets to meet, passengers want trains to be on time and get to there destinations on time, blowing of whistles certainly helps with the dispatch procedure and hurries passengers along, I appreciate that this can cause some upset. Please be assured the staff are very well trained to ensure a safe dispatch of all services, as I have previously stated "Safety" is paramount on the railway and in all honesty I am accountable for your safety at stations, I do not want people falling over or getting stuck in train doors for example. Lastly, if for example a train leaves late at Peckham (Z), it may result in that service being held whilst another train passes at its correct time which it has the right to do... In doing so this creates further delays to that service (Z), it maybe held at a signal whilst two or three other trains that are running to time to pass. Not sure if this making sense.... The more trains that are dispatched at the correct time the paths will be clear for services to arrive at their destinations on time. Michael Krispy Creme is now down in the vaults near underground David C Gates Peckham...2 Points here... Gate Staff called in sick, this left the gates open for that shift. Normarily the peaks dictate how many are directed for flows. 3 Gates in operation into station in the morning and one to exit. This is definitely an oversight which I will rectify for Monday morning. Apologies for inconvenience I think thats it for me, its a beutiful day and hope your all having a nice weekend. As you you know I do this in my own time and is not part of my remit for Southern so can finish this posting with COME ON ENGLAND!!!!! Barry

Dear all Yesterday between 1417 and 1542 the heart of our Network was closed due to a Major Signalling Equipment failure. The failure meant that Three Bridges Signalling centre lost all visibility of our trains. This also had an impact on our depots as no services were able to leave for the evening peak. This meant all services to London having to terminate at Gatwick or short of Croydon and no services from London were able to pass through Croydon. This resulted in Major disruption for the rest of the day. On behalf of Southern I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to your journeys yesterday Barry

Hi I have purposely waited before posting anything about London Bridge and the projects associated with station. I am waiting for confirmation and dates from Network Rail/Mace and will post accordingly Here is a snippet reagrding your posting As you exit the gates on 8/16 you will see an office block which spans the gating area, this is known as Block C (no funny comments please!) My team and I have now vacated this area in readiness for the demolition phase. There are two main reasons for this.. 1. This area needs to go to accomodate the "Shard" as this new building will over hang the concourse area and 2. The block needs to be moved to accomodate the new gates which will be installed over the coming year in seperate phases. I have seen all the pedflow models/risk assessments and spoken with senior project managers and I am very happy with the outcomes. You will see over the next few weeks the block shored up and scaffolded, and a new gantry errected to accomodate the temporary departure screens etc. This phase will not impede passenger flows as they will still accomodate the existing exits and walkways. I think I posted this before, the plan is to have a gate line very similar to Waterloo, ie one straight run of gates and there will be additional gates to accomodate the increase in passenger numbers I will attach a artist impression once I am back in the office Hope this helps Barry Ladygooner Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi Barry > I see the cornish pastie and the krispy kreme > shops have closed at London Bridge - are they > closed so they can be knocked down to make way for > extendeding the gate to and from platforms 8-16 to > prevent queues building up in the morning on exit?

Morning, a few updates... Tulse Hill: Ticket Office opening hours are 0600-2000hrs, I can only assume that the staff were on a break, however saying that there should have been a notice in the counter window stating that. All machines are in full working order Peckham Rye: The software updates are now confirmed for 28th June, this is for the Ticket Vending Machine and counter computers also East Duwlich: Information screens have been rectified and are in full working order this morning Flowers: Contract has been signed, initially I wanted to see what they looked like so have now extended to Queens Road Peckham, extra at East Dulwich and South Bermondsey. ED Departure Screen Platform 2: They are LCD (liquid crystal display) similar to plasma, this program is now being brought forward, I now have to wait for a survey to be carried out. ED: The new barbed wire has now been installed PMR: Refresh program has now started at Peckham Rye, this is quite an extensive project and will take a number of weeks. Queens Road Peckham: Vegetation outside station and graffiti on bridge, this is now being looked at by NWR and waiting for a report back. One problem regarding this is the fact that the bridge spans the main road and may need a closure which is very difficult. I will keep you posted on this one Regards Barry

HELP! If you had a choice at East Dulwich which would you prefer? LCD screens at ED station (train departures placed at entrance to platform 2) or Additional oyster readers on the platform After feedback from the relevant departments both of these are very expensive to implement, my own opinion is the screen at the bottom so you dont walk all the way up. I will push for both however I am looking at quick fixes/win here Barry

Hi Anthony I am very sorry but I am unable to help with additional services/timings etc, this is beyond my remit. However in saying that, Southern is currently looking at the new revised timetable that was implemented in May of this year and will be looking at customer feedback/issues when compiling the new timetable later this year. In the meantime I have forwarded your comments to the right deaprtment I believe you are referring to East Dulwich? I am aware of the paint at the top of the ramp. My team have been unable to remove from the path, however the refresh and paint of the station is due to start in about 3 weeks. The company dealing with this have noted the problem and it is now on the program of works Regards Barry anthonyr Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi barry > > Just found this thread and your doing a great > job..well done! > > I have a couple suggestions..would it be possible > to run a service in-between the 06:12 and the > 06:39 on weekdays?? Hi, I am hoping you have not been to ED for a week or so. On the 3rd June I gave a commitment to have behind the fences cleared of rubbish once a week, this is now up and running. Last Saturday a furthe 4 bins were added at the station. The barbed wire problems and both approaches have been signed off and will be completed next week Regards Barry Pecanpie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I know its totally the fault of thoughtless > passengers but the rubbish trapped behind the wire > is terrible, might it be better if the wire were > removed and more bins put in? > > Mark Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Hi Barry > > > > Thanks for asking for people's input. Jeremy Having spoke with the Network Rail Station Manager, I was reminded that there is a program of works to repair the platforms and unven surfaces, this is the next phase to get the water ingress/puddles etc sorted. Hi Jeremy Please see an extract from a communication today from the Network Rail Station Manager. I will also ask my Duty Managers to keep an eye on things during heavy downpours Regards Barry They've recently spent over 100 hours cleaning out the acco drains across the station so this should have helped as they dug out a lot of silt etc. If you're still having problems let us know but it should be much better Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks, but I am referring to the section furthest > from the main station building, on plaforms > 14/15/16.
