Pavement widening outside M&S nr East Dulwich station...

Failing to see how some people can be unhappy with planting, trees, SUDs, seating, significant pedestrian improvements including a new zebra crossing to name but a few of the public realm improvements. -
Pavement widening outside M&S nr East Dulwich station...
march46 replied to EDmummy101's topic in Roads & Transport
Wider pavements are a good thing, and much needed given the high footfall near the station. -
A protest?
-
Where does it say it includes car parking?
-
It’s looking very impressive, they’ve done a brilliant job restoring the old building.
-
Anything signal related needs to be raised to TfL.

Or…it suggests residents on Dovercourt Rd who’ve complained about parking for years would have been wise to support a CPZ.

Crossroads roadworks - EDG/Dulwich V/RP Hill etc
march46 replied to ed_pete's topic in Roads & Transport
No, I’m challenging your claim that new advanced cycle boxes are the reason the islands are being removed. I have never seen anything that suggests that, and it doesn’t make sense given the advanced boxes are set back behind the pedestrian crossings. Advanced cycle boxes on all 4 arms instead of just 2 is a good thing. The new wider pavements are looking great too, 3 of the 4 corners are finished now. So much better for the heavy footfall. Pedestrian countdown timers have been needed for a long time, it’s positive that they’ll be added also. -

You initially claimed a new cycle lane was the reason why pedestrian islands are being removed - not true, there are no new cycle lanes. Now you’re pivoting to advanced cycle boxes being the reason. Again, not true. Suggest you do your own research before making any further claims. -

My knowledge comes from looking at the publicly available plans. It shows exactly what the junction improvement works are (again, no new cycle lanes). -

The cycle lane was already there, but most drivers ignored the painted lines. It wasn’t two lanes of traffic reduced to one. It became much safer and more accessible with wands. The wands were added quite a few years ago. To confirm, there is no new cycle lane as part of the current junction improvements works as Rockets claimed above. -

It took less than a minute to do a Google search to double-check the things I remembered reading from the consultation docs awhile ago. This isn’t hard. -

There was never a plan for a new cycle lane. -

There are no new cycle lanes. The pavements on each of the 4 corners are being widened and pedestrian countdown timers are being added. It should be much better for the heavy footfall that junction gets. -
South Circular roadworks - excessive disruption

Is this thread still a discussion about the South Circular roadworks? -

It’s around the edge of the cafe seating. Brilliant we now have one locally! -
The latest design is arguably an improvement on the previous design in terms of disabled parking outside the parade of shops - now: two disabled bays outside Megan’s, with sloped kerb with wheelchair accessibility before: one disabled bay outside Megan’s If you go back even further there was no disabled parking bay outside the shops until local campaigners, Clean Air Dulwich, highlighted the need for one. https://x.com/cleanairdulwich/status/1435918240828559367?s=46&t=cUvwfh8eXSgRnyQIZ_cO2w

There are two disabled bays outside Megan’s and the council have amended the previous kerb so it now slopes, improving accessibility for anyone parking a car there who has a wheelchair.
-
There's car parking outside the chemist and the chemist offers a prescription delivery service - helpful for anyone having difficulty walking. There's also now cycle parking for people with disabilities outside the chemist - a great addition as for some people their cycle is their mobility aid.

Presumably you're aware that people with blue badges aren't limited to only parking in blue badge bays? See below from Southwark Council's website. The new CPZ in Dulwich Village has provided many shared use bays and pay-by-phone bays that are free to use with a valid blue badge.
-
If you read the documents you'd know that the council did lots of work to ensure the square is inclusive and accessible for everyone. Transport for All and Wheels for Wellbeing did site visits and provided accessibility audit reports. Worth noting, no comments were received about the need for blue badge holders to drive through the junction.

I don't think these drivers were contributing much to footfall!
