Thames Water - Forest Hill Road (Update)
jazzer replied to jazzer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The letter states; "our work on Forest Hill Road will start at the junction of Woodvale. We will then be working on Forest Hill Road in 100 meter sections to the junction of Mundania Road. To complete our works, we'll have lane closures in place on Forest Hill Road supported by 2 way traffic lights. A 3 way traffic light system will be in place on Forest Hill Road when our works are at the junctions of Marmora Road, Therapia Road and Mundania Road." +Ve - The TfL website still shows NO diversion for the 363, (thankfully) and still running along Forest Hill Road. It'll be chaotic. -

Thames Water have written again stating the works are being delayed and will now commence on Monday 26th April for (12) twelve weeks. Thames Water begin water mains renewal works on Forest Hill Road for (12) twelve weeks, starting 12th April, this coming Monday. The Transport for London website states; "FOREST HILL ROAD, SE23: Due to roadworks, from 19:00 on 9 April to 19:00 on 7 May, Route 63 buses will be starting and terminating at Peckham Rye." Am assuming that the 363 will divert Lordship Lane, Barry Road, Peckham Rye both ways as was previously the case when TW repaired the burst on Forest Hill Road earlier in the year and subsequently when they worked on Woodvale. Currently no disruptions reported on the TfL website for the 363, so it may be running?? Effectively from Forest Hill Road, those that rely on public transport are isolated. No prior warning or consultation with local residents who will be affected by these works by TW. I would further suggest traffic will become significantly worse with motorists seeking alternative routes to avoid Forest Hill Road. It will be of great inconvenience for those wanting to get to Peckham or further North, or for any appointments at Kings College Hospital, particularly as we are still within the pandemic. The named contact on the letter for any questions is [email protected]

How about emergency vehicles, how are they supposed to get from one end to the other of LL, plus the buses, plus lorries delivering stock to businesses on LL, and the elderly who rely on public transport to access shops etc, I doubt the traders will be happy with such a proposal. It is an impractical idea. You've seen how Peckham is withering having had this imposed on it, well if you want to watch and see LL wither, carry straight on. Any imposed cycle lanes reduce road widths, increase standing traffic, raising pollution levels, increasing journey times, people wake up, this is not a feasible idea.

Queens Husband, Edinburgh - Prince Philip has died age 99
jazzer replied to natty01295's topic in The Lounge
Or who won Masterchef which the Final was due to be aired this evening, wiped from the schedule and antie beeb doesn't have the courtesy to say when it will be broadcast. It does not necessitate both BBC 1 and BBC 2 broadcasting simultaneously the same content, BBC4 suspended for 24 hours and what happened to the Women's football match which was due to be screened this evening, duly wiped from the schedule. Their is only so much that can be said about his death and tribute, show it by all means, but once shown it doesn't need to be broadcast continuously for 12 hours. -
Looks like most are preparing to open having seen lights on as I went past this morning (Shelter was still closed)

Rye Lane isn't just a story > of "council mismanagement" or pedestrianisation - > it's a 19th/20th century retail streetscape that > doesn't match 21st century needs. Can't argue with that, other names I missed from Rye Lane was Kennedy's - ham, cheese, pies and other glorious items, BSM, Dunn & Co, The bag shop, Wimpy bar, Fads (decorating store), The Post Office, Dewhurst the butchers next door (double fronted shop), Finfare supermarket (probably one of the first supermarkets for what we take supermarkets to be today, Tesco (originally close to where the Barclays bank was at the top of the lane), Cooperative at the top of the lane and in its day it was huge, three or four shop fronts at least and a couple of floors high, Austins, the very old photographic shop on the corner of Choumart Road, British Gas showroom next door, London Electricity Board show room on the other corner of Choumart road, the Heaton arms, The Kings Arms pubs, the original Woodfalls opticians on the other side of Rye Lane, the record shop around the corner (can't remember its name, was run by a woman). It was sad to see the likes of Whittens go (although expensive) they were convenient and had a captured market as no other timber yards where in the locality. As you say the market has changed, the demographics of Peckham changed, and it is what is now. As landlords charge exorbitant rent's they ultimately suffer with leaseholders who cannot afford the rent demands and it results in empty properties not producing a regular monthly passive income. They lose, the leaseholder loses and the consumer loses. Just showing my age now.

The closure is resulting in fewer people using it for shopping, what it was intended for. Unfortunately we are seeing the slow and gradual decline of Rye Lane as a place to go shopping. Just think back years ago when it was home to the likes of Woolworths, Halfords, M&S, C&A, Jones & Higgins, Holdrens, Times furniture - it was huge, Austins, Coles, Tobacconist, Deli under the station, Personally only use Rye Lane for the banks, Asda and Morrisons, Lidl and Sports Direct + Iceland occasionally. Otherwise not much else of any interest there anymore. It needs more footfall but with it closed off I fear more empty shops.

Some useful info related to Southwark, traffic, LTNs etc
jazzer replied to legalalien's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
History is such a great thing!!!!! Years and years ago, it did run along court lane but was re-routed to the current route, I believe because people who lived there didn't want it running through their road, if memory serves me right?? -
A date for your diary when the the next local council elections fall due. I can only hope that the electorate won't forget what Southwark's performance and the old guard of Cllrs. are finally dismissed.

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
jazzer replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Anyone else seen the utterly stupid cycle lane from approx the bottom of Rye Lane to just past Burger King/Lidl. An utter waste of money, very much like the "short" and I mean short cycle lane put in by the railway bridge on Bellenden Road. Unless I was dreaming, I'm pretty certain there is one as you come out of Dulwich onto the south circular. Who for heavens sake authorises and makes such stupid decisions? All these do is reduce the width of the road this lengthening the time taken for journeys, it results in greater levels of pollution, thus lengthening queuing traffic and increases congestion. Those who made these decisions need to be held to account for their sheer stupidity. -

Such a shame that a well used and long standing business has been "forced" to relocate because of the Council's shortsightedness. Guess the landlord will also be cursing Southwark. I wonder how long before other businesses in Melbourne Grove will follow Callow's and relocate elsewhere, maybe across the boundary into Lewisham? -
https://twitter.com/one_lewisham/status/1374854060776558592/photo/1 This looks great, funny how history repeats itself when trans used to run along Dog Kennel Hill But in these economic strained times, its probably more of a long term dream than realistic reality. The disruption caused during the construction of the Croydon tram was huge, but the benefits far out way that.

As bad as the practice has been, their appear to be some occasional green shoots of improvement. I can only hope these are the start of something better, which is over due, and its patients deserve to receive.
-
Well at least they have one satisfied patient, verses an awful lot who are dissatisfied with the patient experience they have had. As I stated previously, culture is the hardest and takes the longest to change in any organisation.

Clearly, you and those you know feel you have had a good experience, unfortunately many others cannot say that they have had that same experience. I agree with you that all patients should be listened to and treated with respect, kindness, compassion and dignity, but they do not. Reception staff who cannot do the simplest of tasks because they do not listen, are unhelpful or just plain difficult and rude, and at least one of the GP's who clearly thinks they know best and resent being asked the difficult questions or when they clearly do not have knowledge you'd expect them to know as a GP. Then using the "well you've had your 10 minutes" I need to see the next patient routine. Nothing positive about the Pharmacist either. When I hear about the different experience other people have when they speak their own practice - this practice still fails on so many levels. They could make some changes to improve the patient experience and hence increase the quality of service. 1. Take blood samples rather then all sending patients to Kings or Tessa Jowell. If other local practices can offer this service, why can't FHRGP? 2. Offer a walk-in service on a Saturday morning. 3. Make available more appointments to see the nurses. 4. Have more Nurse Practioners who can do more than just nursing and can make clinical decisions, they can at the Tessa Jowell, why not at FHRGP? 5. Offer Vulnerable Patient follow up visits, it can be done elsewhere, why can't FHRGP offer this service? 6. Make more use of the local District Nurse service. 7. Don't be so reliant on technology that doesn't work. 8. Be more flexible, listen to patients and their concerns. 9. Improve communications and sharing of information with Specialists at Kings, Guy's, St. Thomas's (i.e. blood test results) 9. Don't leave the sample collection pot in front of the radiator adjacent to the front door so that it "cooks" the samples. 10. Add your own improvements below 11. 12. etc.

I do not know of any patients who would say they "felt privileged to have such a superb service". If you take a look at the reviews of the practice on the NHS website, they are damning and scathing. The last set of Patient Participation Group meeting published minutes are November 2019. How hard can it be to provide update minutes of meetings?? I still have no idea how the practice got rated as Good in the last CQC inspection report. They are their to provide a service for the 12,500 patients they have. Whilst maybe recently things may have improved just slightly, this practice has an awful lot of improving to do to enable its patients to be complimentary about the service they provide. Culture in an organisation is the hardest thing to change, the culture at FHRGP needs significant improvement. patients need to be put first. If they surveyed the patients I think the response would be "not currently met expectations" -3, however some appear to have a totally different opinion of the practice.

This is what CQC stated in their inspection report of the practice in January 2020. https://www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-544424476/inspection-summary#responsive. I have recently found some staff much more responsive, thoughtful and caring than others in the past. They seem to be more wiling to make referrals to the Tessa Jowell Centre or Kings rather than seeing patients themselves. Perhaps they do not have the necessary staff available because of the toxic nature of this practice. C - 19 has seen this practice change the way it operates, perhaps some staff are unable to adapt to the changes, or get in a flap at the slightest pressure, plus resent being on "door" duty. The issue with the Chemist opposite, has been ongoing for years, so no surprise their. Other chemists in the locality are available who provide exceptional services and go the extra mile. The odd GP at FHRGP could do with realising we are patients who have thoughts, feelings, opinions and may well research on an issue and hence ask more probing / difficult questions of them that they then appear to then resent.
