  1. Tried to install this on five different occasions over six months. Now given up
  2. Ignore my previous post, misread dates
  3. Not recently, about 12 years ago and it cost more than ?1,000 then. Then it was Transco. You need to tell them the distance and location you wish to move it from and to. It costs so much a metre. In our case the gas supply needed re-routing from the street. They used a 'mole' which punched a tunnel through our front garden to outside the house and moved the meter to near the front door. That is one cost. You can use your own gas safe plumber to re-route your pipe work internally and he/she can connect to the re-positioned gas meter. That is another cost. Carpets and floor boards might need to come up for re-directed pipe work/plumbing so good planning is recommended. Good luck and budget accordingly. Edited to say we also moved our electricity meter at the same time but that's another story of an expensive experience.
  4. Five military helicopters, three apparently without lights, just flew over the direction of Dulwich park. Is there a military base nearby? I wonder if this is a precaution against events in Belgium today? Edited for typo
  5. Oh I see, that makes sense. I obviously misheard.
  6. I didn't realise, until Simon Callow mentioned it on telly the other day, that 'My Old Man' is about eviction
  7. New Southwark Council initiative - you need a man with a red flag walking in front of cars

However, I can't help feeling the hangars look like pig pens
  9. Not so much NIMBYs fruityloops, more NIMS (not in my street). The serious point I'm interested in is how do you object? For example, my street is mainly homeowners or people with mortgages with the exception of two houses rented out. If one of the rented houses has a couple of cyclists who apply why should the rest of the street have to accept a bike hangar? - especially as the applicants could be moving on to another area of London after their 6-month or yearly tenancy expires.
  10. Posted by DaveR Today, 02:49PM So I don't really see that as a valid objection to measures encouraging people to cycle. It is really about encouraging people to cycle? Seems more like a storage initiative. I've got a couple of my children's bikes in my shed which they rarely use. If a bike hangar appears on my road or nearby I might be tempted to declutter and store them in the hangar to free up space - cheaper than a storage unit.
  11. Hi James. On the one hand this is a good idea. On the other the picture of the bike hangar above could prove deceptive. It shows a hangar nicely tucked away between some young trees (and a cyclist who appears to be on the wrong side of the road). The reality I suspect will be graffiti scrawled all over this street furniture. Also, although car users are used to parking streets away from where they live because of lack of spaces, dubious disabled bays and yellow lines etc, I'd question whether cycling residents who live three or four streets away from hangar will be bothered to use it. Hope you don't need a key to access the hangar as replacement keys will cost tax payers a fortune. The jury is out for me I'm afraid.
  12. Seems a reasonable sum to me so that you can all sleep at night knowing everything has been done correctly.
  13. Out of interest, how can you tell a person is browsing the forum unless they are posting at the time?
  14. 1. The doggie gender reassignment thread Popular in California etc - Butch was born Fifi, Fifi Butch etc. Nutty owners? Discuss

  16. John, it's not easy to find your way around. Can you narrow down your reference please

I would question budgetary priorities.

I agree Johnie. I get my milk delivered by Milk and More (Dairy Crest) and pay 82p a pint for semi-skimmed. Happy to pay it to keep our milkman in work and you can't beat cold milk from a glass bottle. As most of the comments on your grocer link show, if they withdraw glass bottles I may as well get my milk cheaper from the supermarket.
  19. Sydenham Hill. The new second light they've put up in the last week - as you head from Crystal Palace towards Sydenham Hill
  20. Do you get one flash or two if you are caught by the lights? Got one flash this morning with a car up my backside. Was doing about 23 mph. Flashed just as I passed the light but I hadn't yet reached the white line markings.

Just to say Southwark Council is no longer giving out free green waste bags - budget cuts I'm told. You need to buy your own now

  24. Come back laptop squatters, all is forgiven http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/the-filter/virals/11675023/Hipsters-really-are-using-typewriters-in-public-places.html
  25. oh dear it appears laptop squatters have taken over the British Library Senior academics have complained that they are unable to find space to work on rare books because the library is overcrowded with students attracted by the free wi-fi. Yesterday many students could be seen at the library with Facebook, Instagram and Twitter showing on their laptop screens. Others were watching YouTube videos. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/education/article4454509.ece
