Laptop Squatters (especially Cafe Nero in Lordship Lane)
keano77 replied to Chief's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes drives me mad too. The modern equivalent of tramps keeping warm and reading newspapers in libraries. -
Forgive me for asking the obvious but have you got the option to switch between drill and hammer on your drill? Is it possible you're just using the drill option? There can't be many homes locally that are not built of bricks or blockwork which the hammer function should cope with.

Want to open a Skateboard shop in Peckham/Dulwich
keano77 replied to AronHuds's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My son spent a fortune at Finches in Forest Hill which is well established -
Happened to me last year. It all seemed above board (I didn't leave him out of my sight). Took samples of the water and swabs of the outlets on the taps. Everything was capped and labelled.

I'm not sure we've got all the facts here or are comparing like with like. I find it difficult to believe the same company would quote an existing customer more than 40% less for exactly the same product with the same excess - unless it was an introductory offer for a new customer perhaps.

And what would the little lady like to order sir........
keano77 replied to Mick Mac's topic in The Lounge
I was once with a group of people in a Chinese restaurant when the waiter cleared some plates and brought another dish with what looked like pale pancake rolls in clear wrapping. I was wondering how you eat this next course when fortunately one of the group unwrapped one and wiped his hands with it. -

Thinking about it, partly due to cost and partly in an effort to impress, I seem to remember I ordered artichoke for the first time, naively pulling off and chewing one or two of the outer leaves before 'Little Lady' pointed out I was meant to eat the soft heart. I spent the next 45 minutes or so chewing the cud to break down the inedible fibrous leaves. -

It is less common these days save for higher end establishments. Reminds me of a second or third date I had about 25 years ago in an aspirational restaurant in West Hampstead. My then girlfriend unknowingly chose the most expensive starter, main course and dessert on the menu leading me to opt for the cheapest while crossing fingers in the hope I had enough credit on my Access Card. Been married 23 years now and she still often chooses the dearest even though she can see the prices. -
Could it be this bell tower behind the Herne Bay garage? Scroll down to the Leyland Tiger TS8 - JG 9932-9966 listing on this link http://www.classicbuses.co.uk/ektig.html

Neopolitan pizzas are protected under EU rules similar to french cheeses/wines as to ingredients and process. They do use a particular yeast but I've never seen them referred to as sourdough (a later American term?) and fermentation of the yeast bacteria (the main distinction with sourdough) does not appear to be particularly relevant to the process. I could be wrong though and due to the taste imparted by the yeast it could fall under a loose description of sourdough

Pizzas should not be made of sourdough either in my opinion, but then I prefer the thin crust Italian wood-fired classics rather than the American versions that dominate here.

Hi EDF, I need to look into non-slip flooring for elderly parents. Has anyone had any experience of this? I'm looking for something warm with a range of patterns and colours that would suit a hallway and stairs, ie something to suit a domestic home rather than office or industrial use, more carpet-like than tiles or faux-wooden flooring. If anyway can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful. Thanks

It would depend whether your PDF file was saved as an editable file or not. You should be able to edit it in photoshop, illustrator or adobe if you have those. If it's not an editable file (ie, the fonts are embedded) you can still edit it by placing a text box over the paragraph or sentence you wish to update and retyping new words in the original font, although you'll be constrained by the original sentence/paragraph length. Then resave the file. If you don't normally use the above programs there may be no alternative but to start from scratch with a simple word file.

Okay thanks. I've since read the rules.

I'm having a clear out and have been putting a number of items in the For Sale section. A number of them have disappeared. Have you removed them? Beverley

Is anyone else experiencing water pressure problems in ED? My shower has been showing low water pressure on and off for the past month. I'd be better off using a watering can. I think I read somewhere the water board was going to reduce the pressure because of the leaks and to lessen the risk of burst water mains.

Does anybody know of an old school hardcore gym in south London that is not too pricey while at the same time has a friendly environment? In need of a new gym as the leisure centre is a let down to me.

Yes, I've just checked our tree and we have the same thing. Are those eggs under the leaves?

I've just taken my daughter to a well-known shop on Lordship Lane to buy her some items she wanted. Both items were priced at ?6.99. I asked the shopkeeper if we could pay for the items separately as my daughter was paying out of her own pocket money and I would pay for the other item. The shopkeeper was happy to do this. My daughter handed over a ?10 note and I made the point of asking her how much money she would get back. We agreed it should be ?3 and a penny. The shopkeeper gave her her change. I then paid for the second item with a ?10 note and the shopkeeper jokingly asked me if I knew how much change I'd get. We've just got home and my daughter went to put her change in her purse only to realise the shopkeeper had given her ?3 and one US cent change. I'm sure it was an innocent mistake and we've since been on the internet to identify that the person on the front is Abraham Lincoln. Also, one cent is commonly known as a penny in the US. So strictly speaking the shopkeeper did give us the correct change. Unfortunately my daughter can't spend it in this country. She's also learned a lesson in checking her change at the time of purchase.

Just been a short feature about this on News at 10. It doesn't bode well for the extra demand during the Olympics

Petition to save East Dulwich Police Station
keano77 replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I went to ED police station last week for a crime number (card cloned). They were open at 8pm. They requested I get further information from my bank before they would give me one. with the requested information I go back to ED police station tonight only to find a notice stating Closed until further notice. I had to go down to the station near the old tip, near Elephant and Castle. very inconvenient
