  2. What?s not to ?get? *Bob*? They?re music promoters and event organisers who were trying to run the operation out of a shop that also sold CDs and vinyl and would play host to gigs.

It's a comic book thing Quids. So er, "geek" is the right word i think. It's also kinda a film thing.

Really? I think 2 and a half hours is too short. Surely considering the hard hitting social messages in watchmen someone like Snyder who will ?translate it verbatim? is what they were looking for. Or is that me being naive in assuming that Joe Public is going to have the wherewithal to think about what the writer is trying to say about the world they inhabit? As for recent adaptations, I liked Road to Perdition and Sin City. I can?t say From Hell did the book justice. Actually all of the attempts to film Alan Moore?s work so far have been a bit rubbish. Not necessarily rubbish films, just rubbish compared to the books.
  5. As an African who has risked his life going to schools to teach underprivileged kids English while there are riots going on outside and driven food supplies to soup kitchens in areas where the colour of my skin would have earned me a bullet had my old jalopy broken down, I have to say his ?efforts to raise awareness? are pathetic and patronising. Fuckit the wall?s not good enough; it will be the ditch for him.
  6. Oh I ?get? U2. I just think they?re shit. And as for that rat faced cunt who thinks that fronting the world?s most annoying band makes him an expert on third world issues, first up against the fucking wall. 7. Try this Oh and don't forget The minor fall and the major lift (Shamelessly plagiarised from the Daily Mash.) EDIT: In accordance with the Prophecy.

Luckily with Dune I was young enough for it to just be a film about giant worms and spaceships. LotR always gives me hope that it is possible to make a film/s that do a book justice.
  9. Very, very sad. I?ve seen so many go this way. The ambulance has been called. Perhaps we could whip together to send some flowers.

Don?t worry Rosie. I don?t think anyone can fault a campaign against, violence against women for being too women-centric.
  11. Well now that you mention it?
  12. On his telly show Heston Bluemental is going to make Absinthe Jelly. I was once violently ill after drinking Absinthe. Am I entitled to compensation?

I like this idea of his, ?In fact, what might have been a more powerful route would have been 12 one hour episodes?? That would be awesome and even temp me to purchase one of those penny dreadfuls of our modern age, the DVD box set.

  15. Yeah ostrich is becoming more common in the uk these days. I know they have a few commercial ostrich farms in England. Its lovely meat, I like it. I?ve been tempted for a while now to do an ostrich leg roast. Just to see the expression on people?s face when I plonk a platter containing potatoes and 1 giant drumstick on the table.
  16. Come to think of it a 4 by 1 foot sheep sausage skewered on a vertical rotisserie, gradually shaved off and served exclusively to drunk people in stale flatbread and smothered in a red spicy substance that can only be described as ?chilli sauce? for want of a better word, is all pretty strange if you ask me.
  17. I?ve eaten mopane worms which I didn?t consider very exotic at the time although very strange. They don?t taste of much really. I have also had crocodile, warthog, kudu, springbok, buffalo, impala and various other African things with horns. But none of that is particularly surprising as I?m from SA and spend at least 1 month there every year. One thing I have noticed lately is that they have started using game like kudu and springbok to make carpaccio (as candj mentioned) and it is absolutely brilliant. The stronger flavor of the meat really comes out.
  18. Does it actually taste of anything? I thought it was just decorative.
  19. Actually stuff this. I?m putting my shoes back on. It?s way to cold to account to anything higher than 10 today.

Not sure but the mock cover of the metro this morning alludes to it with the headline ?Fears Grow for Missing ?Black Freighter? Writer?

Yeah I know there is a lot of etc. etc. and they can?t possibly fit all the themes and subplots into a film. It is 2 1/2 hours long though and considering how true to the book Zack Snyder stayed with 300 I think it is going to be pretty good.
  22. Buck skinning, brandy drinking and fighting. What else would they teach us? I account for 19 on my fingers and toes with one toe left over, if a little cold in this weather.

It comes out today. I know lots of people have been looking forward to this, some with a certain degree of trepidation, for a long time now. Did you notice the New Frontiersman cover on the Metro this morning?

  25. Don?t know. I don?t have any opinions or answers, just trying to unpack the question properly. Where would more council housing come from? Councils buying up repossessed properties? That would probably be too expensive. The government appropriating properties from the banks or private individuals? All sounds a bit ?Zimbabwe?. A long term strategy of proper regulation in the housing market may work. Now if only we had a government who we employed to run the country because that is the sort of thing we could rely on them to do, surely. Anyway hopefully not too many people will lose their jobs and consequently their homes and it won?t be a problem. Well any more of a problem than it already is.
