  1. After a particularly alcoholic farewell to a young lady called Flo, my friends Chris, Martin and Mike got arrested for letting off a fire extinguisher in Johannesburg Airport. I had stayed home that day to help my dad fix a car and had to go get them out of the airport holding cells. Never knew airports had holding cells until then.
  2. Well something certainly kicks you. Judging by the way I felt on Sunday morning I think it?s a mule.
  3. Isn't that the film Wonderwall the soundtrack to which was by George Harrison? George Harrison was played by Chris O'Neill in Back Beat. There used to be an O?Neills at Denmark Hill but now it?s a Phoenix which is a fire risk to that old station building if there ever was one.
  4. Insert link to youtube clip of dinner table scene from Beetlejuice here:
  5. For the soundtrack to the film Back Beat they put together a band consisting of Dave Grohl, the guy from Soul Asylum, the guy from REM and some other guys from some other bands. They recoded a bunch of ?50s rock classics. I have it on my ipod.
  6. Eek!
  7. Jumping goat.
  8. If you're up hte Plough end Badger bakery is good. Not fancy but they have a good selction of fresh breads in the mornings.
  9. Yes ensure that your guardian always follows two steps behind you and keeps watch for stalkers. Oh and remember they have to pay full price bus fare too. I have found it easiest to get mine an oyster card.
  10. Ook?
  11. The adjectives ?scrummy? and ?yummy? and the interjection ?yum? and all the other throw-cushions and crumpets phraseology people use to describe things that come in earthy toned, recycled paper wrapping. Although used in different context they?re just as lazy as swearing. Unlike swearing they don?t have the benefit of being amusing and/or referring to people?s rude bits. Another annoying thing is that I seem to be rapidly turning into a grumpy old man with a surprising capacity to be personally offended by broad social trends.
  12. For me Remembrance Day and the Armistice have always been about remembering the losses and promoting a peaceful future. At least that is what the WW2 veterans in my family taught us to believe. I don?t like the reasoning that seems to feature in some circles that wearing a poppy = supporting the Legion which for some reason is construed as supporting the current shameful British military action abroad.
  13. Queen and country wasn?t it? Roughly translated that means bickering between European aristocracies. All the more reason why we should remember and honour the poor bastards.
  14. Wikipedia says this about it: "The hour was originally defined in ancient civilizations (including those of Egypt, Sumer, India, and China) as either one twelfth of the time between sunrise and sunset or one twenty-fourth of a full day. In either case the division reflected the widespread use of a duodecimal numbering system. The importance of 12 has been attributed to the number of lunar cycles in a year, and also to the fact that humans have 12 finger bones (phalanges) on one hand (3 on each of 4 fingers).[1] (It is possible to count to 12 with your thumb touching each finger bone in turn.) There is also a widespread tendency to make analogies among sets of data (12 months, 12 zodiacal signs, 12 hours, a dozen)." If time was decimal it would have made highschool maths a lot easier.

    My 1000th post

Good form old boy. Next thing you know you'll be push 5000.
  16. Back where? They're in the same place they've always been.
  17. Lest we forget. But just as important. Let's make bloody sure it doesn't happen again.
  18. Is that the 1-7-6 to PENGE! that you're talking about?
  19. Yeah ?targets? in public services are a swell idea. Just look at the wonders they have done for education and healthcare. And as I understand it they are singularly responsible for our crime rates being about 10% lower for the last 10 years.
  20. Ted Nugent is a bit of a psychonazi.
  21. Argentina is so named because of its silver mines. I don't know if the Who has ever played there but the Springboks have.
  22. Narrowslope
  23. I could probably flog some to the people I work with MM. They?re a bunch of wonks who speak about politicians in the same way normal people speak about rock stars. Can?t walk around Westminster without them pointing at and gibbering about every obscure MP they catch sight of.
  24. This from mash of the day, "Home secretary Jacqui Smith said the police must take full responsibility for misinterpreting government guidelines in exactly the way she told them to."
  25. Ted Max pointed this out on another thread. I feel that as it is about beer it warrants proper exposure and discussion. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/also_in_the_news/7688195.stm Personally I would welcome the chance to be able to buy 2/3s of a pint of lager as lager has to be drunk cold and a pint gets warm at the end, especially as most pubs don?t serve it cold enough in the first place. I will stick to pints of proper beer though.
