Thanks Bob. I knew there was a wine shop I just didn?t know whether it was a Thresher or not. In my mental picture of LL there are 2 things, the pubs and the stuff in-between the pubs.

Is there a Threshers on LL?

MrBen I don?t think a Zulu warrior would be wearing a grass skirt and flowers in his hair. Unless of course he was on his way to a Pride march dressed as a Polynesian Hula dancer or his medication had run out.

All the best Keef! Hope it all goes well.

Saying c*** is a bit like breaking wind. If well timed and used at the correct moment it can have great comic effect. If used at the wrong time it can completely ruin the job interview.

In my 5 or so years of living in England it has become obvious to me that the most offensive word one can use in this country is ?Soccer?.

What about Watership Down? When I was a kid it was one of those films that the folks would put on for the kids to watch to keep them occupied when they were bbqing or having diner parties or whatever suburban parents did in the 80s. I don?t think they ever watched it themselves they just thought it was a happy happy cartoon about bunnies. In reality it emotionally traumatised a whole generation of kids.

Yeah you're right there MP. What I really wrote was "culminating" in. You must be misreading things. ;-)

I think that 9/11 was a lot more black and white in the sense of, these are the good guys and these are the bad guys than the hundreds of years of conflict culminating in ?the troubles? was. Therefore it was easier for 9/11 to be packaged as an iconic catastrophe. She does make a fair point though. I too have never read any of her stuff but you know, Nobel Prize winning old lady who swears on telly. Sounds interesting. I may get something out next time I'm in the library.

I get your point there MP. I was not taking into consideration the agendas the term is associated with. I was thinking more literally. For me the term Liberal is also pretty annoying, even though it is the category that I generally fall into when people try to pigeonhole me. It brings to mind images of mollycoddled, first world idealists with their heads so far up their arses they can?t see their own glaring double standards or the damage their good is doing.

I wonder whether the relevance of Rugby in > modern Britain is being overstated in order to > boost national morale. > I think a lot of the reason is that people are growing disillusioned with football as the commercial side of the game has become so prominent that there is little room left for things like national pride. When the England football team play it is a secondary thing for the players whereas when the rugby team play it is the pinnacle of what those players can achieve. The fans pick up on this kind of stuff.

Below is a paragraph lifted from wikipedia (so it could be about Japanese cheeses for all you know) which sums up generally what I have always understood the term Libertarian to mean. ??all human interaction, including government interaction with private individuals, should be voluntary and consensual. Or, to state it another way, they assert that all persons are the absolute owners of their own lives, and should be free to do whatever they wish with their persons or property, provided they allow others the same liberty. They maintain that the initiation of force by any person or government, against another person or their property?with force meaning the use of physical force, the threat of it, or the commission of fraud against someone?who has not initiated physical force, threat, or fraud, is a violation of that principle. They do not oppose force used in response to initiatory aggressions such as violence, fraud or trespassing.? The way I interpreted the article was Monbiot describing Ridley using these apparent ideals to justify his being at liberty to take risks with other peoples? money. Then going further to say Libertarianism in practice would just be, as Sean said, ?A land-grab by the fittest who could then turn around and say `well, you had equal opportunity` assuming, in effect, power? i.e rampant capitalism. I must just say that I do not subscribe to any particular school of thought but rather think that different ideas can be applied to societies in different situations and for different reasons. It is just a matter of finding what works, when and how. Oh and when mentioned Anarchy I was not referring to the socio political ideal of some kind of collective with no leader. I meant the literal meaning of complete chaos and lawlessness.

*Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Similarly, why are rich girls always better (any > men reading, change 'better' to 'filthier') in the > sack than poor girls? Posh girls aren?t necessarily better in the sack but they are in general easier to get into the sack. I hold my hands up and say that I do have an opinion on this either way. It is just an observation. Anyway shame on you all for taking the usually decent and topical subject matter of this forum for a walk through the gutter.

In general Libertarian ideals are that an individual is allowed complete freedom and is not forced into or obligated to do anything BUT they must allow other people leave to do the same. The second part of the statement implies that there is some obligation upon the individual in order to maintain the right to his freedom and quite possibly the need for some kind of law and enforcement. Surely what you are describing is Anarchy?

I just read that George Monbiot article Sean. It raised the question that if libertarian ideals which generally focus around the rights of the individual are put into practice in government, what sort of social obligations would institutions that provide services that we consider to be basic human rights (housing, education, etc) have? Which led me to ask: In our society where personal banking is becoming increasingly compulsory if you are to be a functional member of society, at what point will access to personal banking become a basic human right?

Fry some onion, garlic and chili (if you like). Bung in a tin of tomatoes add some basil, oregano, salt to taste. Cook for about 15mins. Serve over pasta. Serves 2 costs about ?1. Healthy and tasty.

Cheers MP. I actually googled them in my lunch break. One can never know too much about the colouring of small rodents.

My home town is great! I love it and visit it as often as possible. You can go to the pub without shoes on and mullets aren?t ironic yet. So are black squirrels genetically more similar to grey or red ones and are they invasive to the UK?
