Which Dulwich - East/West/Village?

You have to spend time in the area, only you know what feels right for you. You will then probably have more specific questions to ask which will be easier to answer. -

GALA Music Festival 2024 Consultation
Jenijenjen replied to tomster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
In a time when there have been devastating cut backs to council funding, I don't see a problem with the council's efforts to raise money for the greater good. -

As a middle class elderly* frequent user of Park and Common I agree with @Cyclemonkey especally about the area of the park in question being less used. (*I do like a good winge too but not about this) -

Still in Nunhead, the vandalised but restored remains of the Anglican Chapel in the cemetery would make a good subject, also the entrance gates in Linden Grove. Love your paintings.

Forest Hill Road GP - better alternative please
Jenijenjen replied to EDmummy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think there may be a glitch in the tech sometimes. I received a text out of the blue from them a couple of months ago which made no sense but I complied and embarked on a series of actions that led nowhere and had no conclusion. I find the reception staff mainly very helpful and polite and one or two have certainly bent over backwards to help though I'm sure many people find otherwise. -
Isn't this discussion more appropriate for The Lounge?

This is based on my memory only and so perhaps not very reliable but I thought the butcher was one of the casualties when Sainsbury's opened (1993?). They tried to carry on as wholesalers only for a while but this wasn't successful, perhaps because they made a lot of noise at 6am and perhaps there were complaints. There may have been a gap between the butchers vacating and Transylvanian Express opening but not sure.

Problem with BT installing fibre optic cable
Jenijenjen replied to mayfly's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Why is it not be possible to have a box installed on the front wall internally and externally and then make a wireless connection, perhaps with a booster, with the middle room as you were originally told? Admittedly my knowledge is very limited but I'm able to get a wireless connection from the box and router in the front room to my kitchen at the back. Replacing an underground cable seems unnecessary when wireless is available. -
If the situation isn't rectified to your satisfaction within say 7 days I would name the estate agents here.

I thought Foxtons had managed to extend the boundary of East Dulwich to include all of Bellenden Road but later decided it was a part of Peckham all along and named Bellenden Village.

Garden Waste Fees - 50% increase
Jenijenjen replied to Penguin68's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There are very many council tax payers in Southwark who do not have the luxury of a garden, even in East Dulwich, and it would be unreasonable to expect them to subsidise the lucky ones who do. -
There is a lack of student accommodation in London, according to this article there are 4 students chasing every student bed so there is a need. Suspect it's a case of if they build it they will come to east Dulwich rather than a case of students already in East Dulwich moving in. https://www.standard.co.uk/business/london-student-housing-shortage-research-a-level-results-b1100984.html

Sir Charles Barry and his son Charles Barry Junior were both architects for Dulwich College. Junior designed many buildings for the College including the new College itself, Dulwich Library, North Dulwich Station and the sadly disappeared High Level station at Crystal Palace. He was responsible for the initial designs for Dulwich Park but the final designs were by JJ Sexby, Chief Parks Officer for the LCC. There was a track there long before it became Barry Road.
