  1. There was a previous thread about them about 6 months ago. Since then, they have been found guilty and fined for illegal street trading and collections in June in the City of London. https://news.cityoflondon.gov.uk/we-r-blighty-pleads-guilty-of-illegal-street-trading-and-collections-in-the-city/
  2. To put this over dramatic and somewhat gleeful post in context, the policy has not "failed at first hurdle." "It is just a temporary decision. The judge granted a pause of at least 14 days so the man, who is not being named for legal reasons and arrived in the UK on a small boat last month, could provide evidence of his claim that he has been a victim of modern day slavery." from BBC website
  3. Robert Redford
  4. Just seen the limping fox in my garden in North Cross Road. Didn't stay for long but looks alert, curious, lively, in good condition, apart from limp very healthy. Of course, having the an injured limb is not ideal but I wonder if stressing him/her by trying to catch it, which will be very difficult, is the best course of action. Edited to add could see no sign of infection, leg looked withered more than injured, maybe a birth defect? I don't know. Any way, is using his other rear leg well enough to rest his front legs on the window sill and peer inside my kitchen.
  5. I posted about this many years ago, how it was all smiles and thank yous if you bought a book for 50p (it was a long time ago) yet if you donated goods that might raise £50 there was just a grumpy "leave it there." Happy to say I've found things have improved a lot.
  6. Made me laugh, not in a good way, to learn Nadine Dorries, his no 1 groupie, is trying to pave his way into Reform.
  7. I'd really like to see him receive his comeuppance but no matter how damning the evidence, I'm very cynical he'll receive any appropriate punitive measure that will hurt or cause him shame.
  8. Maybe it was Howard Hughes
  9. There was me overcome with memories of articles in women's magazines from the 1950s advising their readers how to be a good housewife and thinking it's like feminism never happened. Until I read the last paragraph. Be warned, this is PR from someone who runs a cleaning company.
  10. The discussion has been about the silence from certain posters about Truss's disastrous actions. Your 'gotcha' is merely a deflection.
  11. These events were unforeseeable whereas the effects of Truss's reckless budget could have been foreseen despite her unshakeable and deluded beliefs and could, should have been avoided
  12. Yeah, it's almost like they've got an agenda
  13. Just seen this poster in LL post office. It looks like it will not be closing but will be "operated by an independent franchise partner ZCO Ltd"
  14. I remember in the 70s the Union Jack was similarly appropriated by the National Front and later the British Party, I regarded it in the same way many perceive the St George's flag today. The Union Jack went through a period of rehabilitation in the 90s and probably viewed more positively by the left today. I wonder though if the anti immigration groups who have appropriated the St George;s flag realise that St George was born in what is modern day Turkey.
  15. Indeed. How many of us owe our lives and continuing good health to immigrants?
  16. Like most of us, I'm guessing they didn't look into thoroughly
  17. Of course something will happen! The unknowns are what and when.
  18. There's no record on Southwark's website of planning permission for demolition which according to this website is needed to demolish a pub. Also for demolishing a building in an unsafe condition which could well be the case. https://www.planningportal.co.uk/permission/common-projects/demolition/planning-permission
  19. It's been suggested on the other thread that Stonegate are due to hand back to DE in September and there may be clauses in the contract about the condition it has to be handed back in
  20. Terence Stamp
  21. I would hope that those managing pension funds that have invested in TW have already seen the writing on the wall and are investing elsewhere.
  22. I used to know a lady, in her 70s, very respectable. had a beautiful garden and loved to garden, was always taking cuttings from public parks. She was careful not to do it when other people were around and a friend acted as look out.
  23. I've used World of Books- or WOB as they call themselves now - a couple of times. It's a time consuming exercise for little reward which is why they are able to sell titles at quite low prices. They're not interested in the mega best selling paperbacks as they probably have warehouses full of them already. Despite the low return, I'd sell to them again. St Christophers must receive many many books as donations. In the past I have seen the World of Books van outside a few times.
  24. I believe the part that runs underground is culverted so would not contribute to the water table.
