  1. Does this mean then that anybody who rents out their home in East Dulwich needs one of these licenses? And does everyone of these landlords have one?
  2. It does though seem one rule for Tories and one rule for Labour
  3. Well, if it's nostalgia you want ...
  4. Don't think so, Elizabeth line stops there. Think you mean Drayton Green on the old Ealing Broadway to Greenford push/pull line. Anyway, it was least used station in London a couple of years ago, now it's Sudbury and Harrow.
  5. I think North Dulwich was named in relation to West Dulwich. When the North/East Dulwich line was opened, East Dulwich Station was called Champion Hill. The station was called Clapham Junction because Clapham was considered more upmarket than Battersea. Purely a marketing decision! Edit: just found out North Dulwich station was called just Dulwich Station until 1926 when it was renamed to avoid confusion with West Dulwich station.
  6. Why have things got so complicated? I suppose a cat flap with a timer might be useful for people out all day but can't really see the point of them when its so easy to flip a simple mechanical lock. This is how my last cat flap operated but had to be replaced when cat wearing cone of shame tried to escape and broke it. The cat flap I have now is one of those linked to cats microchip but even then there is just a four way dial which allows different kinds of access - or not. Not that cat is bothered, refuses to use it and demands i open the door for her. This is bit of a rant because along with a new boiler I got a new electronic programmer which is really annoying as it takes 5 minutes to change a simple temperature whereas with old programmer it took 10 seconds. Hope you get sorted @oglander and enjoy your future servitude to your feline master.
  7. I almost did a Google search to find out who Tara Chuck is
  8. I had both at the same time at Sheels Pharmacy in Nunhead, one in each arm. Very friendly and painless. I think Krystals in Nunhead may also offer both at the same time, they have in other years
  9. It seems the refurbishment is geared to attract 11 to 18 year old who were consulted with. Not a bad thing for many reasons though will reserve final judgment until I see the actual outcome. Something needs to be done, I always find it a very dull and sombre place. As a previous poster said, there is an excellent online book ordering service that will bring in specific books from other libraries if needs be.
  10. and even since Tory austerity, they've been opening new build modern libraries - Canada Water, Camberwell, Una Marson, Grove Vale.
  11. I suspect this fine was anticipated by RM in their aim of getting everyone to use their more expensive tracked and signed for services. I had an important letter to send and was reluctant to use the ordinary and unreliable 1st class post so sent it 'signed for' at a cost of over twice as much. It's like the unreliability of 1st and 2nd class has become a marketing tool for more expensive services. Paranoid - moi?
  12. I'm baffled why voters believe a media friendly politician makes a competent prime minister. See Trump, Johnson, Faridge et al I thought the electorate had become more sophisticated
  13. The soil is really dry due to lack of rain and perhaps it's considered too dry to plant for next spring? I have a few things that need transplanting in my garden but not considering it until we have more rain.
  14. It's become a bit of a meme or is it a trope
  15. Agree But neither is he President of the USA material. And look what's happened. Twice.
  16. Queen of the bonkbuster Dame Jilly Cooper died yesterday after a fall
  17. I think there is some confusion about two threads that start "Rachel Reeves ...", the other one is older and longer.
  18. I'm curious how you came to this conclusion: did you analyse the raw data yourself or are you relying on cherry picked interpretations in the right wing press? I can only think how much worse it would be if the Tories were still in power.
  19. Too often people say all politicians are the same. No, they're not all the same
  20. "This lack of transparency means the scale of dirty money entering the UK is unknown, but experts estimate that it is in excess of tens of billions of pounds every year, aided by a network of bankers, lawyers, and accountants, who face few consequences." https://www.transparency.org.uk/what-we-do/corruption-and-uk/stop-flow-dirty-money
  21. If this is true, they would have channels that would avoid any tax. Besides, I think proceeds of crime are more likely to flow into the UK
  22. Not the only one these days
  23. From the October 2025 edition of the Dulwich Society e-news: "The Paxton pub at Gipsy Hill is being refurbed by Greene King and will reopen as a music and restaurant venue called the House of Mobo."
  24. I have no problem with it. Don't understand why civil liberties groups are against it and why there has been so much historic resistance to the introduction of ID cards. We already have passports, surely not so very different?
  25. @Spartacus It seems a very complex subject and I have no knowledge of the places awarded money but pride of place has many more ingredients than retail.
