There's no record on Southwark's website of planning permission for demolition which according to this website is needed to demolish a pub. It's been suggested on the other thread that Stonegate are due to hand back to DE in September and there may be clauses in the contract about the condition it has to be handed back in

I would hope that those managing pension funds that have invested in TW have already seen the writing on the wall and are investing elsewhere.

I used to know a lady, in her 70s, very respectable. had a beautiful garden and loved to garden, was always taking cuttings from public parks. She was careful not to do it when other people were around and a friend acted as look out.

I've used World of Books- or WOB as they call themselves now - a couple of times. It's a time consuming exercise for little reward which is why they are able to sell titles at quite low prices. They're not interested in the mega best selling paperbacks as they probably have warehouses full of them already. Despite the low return, I'd sell to them again. St Christophers must receive many many books as donations. In the past I have seen the World of Books van outside a few times.

I believe the part that runs underground is culverted so would not contribute to the water table.

I have spent many years pondering the state of dampness in my basement and had composed a long and rather boring reponse. Have reduced it to bullet points: The cause of damp on the common wall with my neighbour was found to be caused by a slow leak their side which they were unaware of. Leak was repaired and dampness subsided. An experienced drainage man told me there are no underground rivers in East Dulwich My damp patches come and go and are more prevalent in summer when the humidity is high and barely there during the winter. I was considering getting a dehumidifier until I read they can suck the water out of walls/floor and make the problem worse.

One time Sainsbury's delivered 6 bags of apples instead of 6 single apples which I couldn't possibly get through. I phoned Pecan in Peckham to ask if they would accept them despite their website stating no fresh foods. I must have phoned at just the right time as they were happy to accept them. Sainsburys gave me a refund so the donation was courtesy of them. Or you could experiment with all kinds of apple recipes and write a blog about it

The street directory is on Ancestry and you'll need a subscription to access. You've sent me down a rabbit hole here! According to the 1909/10 street directory, 10 Whateley Road was the address for John Gibson, beer retailer. He was born about 1860 in Walworth and his father, also called John, was a beer retailer as well. By the time of the 1891 census, John Gibson Junior had moved to 10 Whateley Road and described himself as a beer house manager. He was married to Margaret and had a son and a daughter. John and Margaret were still living at the address 30 years later when he described himself as a beer retailer. His mother's name was Charlotte Sarah and there is an entry from the same street directory as above for someone by that name described as a beer and wine retailer at 42 North Cross Road. This was most likely his mother, now described as a widow. Hoping this is of interest.

If you're talking about who I think you are, I find them more exuberant than rude and usually smiling and polite. But then, I'm usually smiling and polite to them. Can you not wedge open your gate when you're expecting them?

I think it's a good idea and follows the example of other towns/areas. As it says in the article, the area around the main tourist attractions in Southwark, that is The Globe, Southwark Cathedral, Tate Modern and the whole walking route from London Bridge to Blackfriars, takes a lot of maintaining and it shouldn't be a burden on regular council tax payers like us.

It will always be King's on the Rye for me. This photo shows it early 20th century when it was known as King's Arms. The building was totally destroyed during WW2, rebuilt 1957 and renamed Kings on the Rye.

I too had an appointment at ASDA last week and walked to the bus stop at Nigel Road where I caught a 78 all the way through.

I know an instance where the foxes quickly learned how to avoid such devices.

I don't think anyone would object to the examples you have given being given space in the noticeboard (Theatre Peckham is a registered charity) and I think reflect the original intentions behind their introduction. I would not like to see advertisements for purely commercial enterprises e.g yoga studios, cafes, tradesmen which would not be in keeping with the original purpose.

If commercial concerns are able to use the noticeboards to advertise their businesses, will they be charged a commercial fee?

I've heard on the grapevine that Casa Core reckon they'll get their money back for the very expensive refurb within a year. It seems to be doing good business.
