  1. When he bites you, have you presented the boob to him at a habitual time when he usually has a feed, or when he has asked for it? It might be that he just isn't that hungry at that point, and so is biting because he isn't really interested in the milk and so is kind of playing with it. Might be worth trying not offering you boob to him at times other than when he is asking? Just an idea that might be worth a go. Good luck, there is nothing worse than a bitten boob - keep an eye on it for mastitis xxxx
  2. thanks for everyone's contributions! Having given it some thought I agree with redjam - the point is probably less what actual term you use, and more the way in which you use it to create open and free communication that makes the difference. So i am just going to go with the name that I use confidently for myself, and see how we go. :)
  3. Piece about Naomi Stadlen's new book: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/sep/10/mothering-parents-naomi-stadlen-psychotherapist
  4. I just found this which is interesting: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/mar/18/gender.uk
  5. Sanne Panne - I agree with you, I find it confusing when the whole area is referred to as a vagina, when that isn't what it is.
  6. Hi wise mums, I was wondering what names people have given to their daughters for their private parts? It's hard to know which is the best route to go! Thanks, Sophie
  7. baby led weaning is they key, and just believe that we don't have to teach our babies to eat, so most likely if she doesn't want it it's because she doesn't need it. Trust your baby xxx
  8. you are all welcome lovely mum's, it is such a beautiful book I am glad you are enjoying it! xxx
  9. Hi everyone. I just saw this and it has shocked me. I suppose it shouldn't, as we know of so much child exploitation in this world, but it is just so awful. Wanted to share to raise awareness: http://www.channel4.com/news/thai-kid-boxers-square-up-to-health-risks
  10. Hi everyone, I have been reading this really enlightening book, and had to share it. I would say it is the most beneficial thing I have read since having my daughter, and is helping me to find balance in many ways! Enjoy: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Buddhism-Mothers-Approach-Yourself-Children/dp/1742377017/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314538701&sr=8-1 S x p.s there is usually also a copy at Dulwich Library, except I have it on loan at the moment!!
  11. This is an excellent book which looks at behaviour from a totally different angle to the suggestions already mentioned. Interesting read for all parents: http://www.amazon.co.uk/They-Are-What-Feed-Them/dp/0007182252/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314382992&sr=8-1
  12. nikki73 - just wondered if you had thought about what you would if the baby was actually born there in regards to getting home after? Would you be traveling there alone? Have you thought about how you would get yourself and newborn baby back? Could they not interview you by Skype under the circumstances??
  13. I use soapnuts, and I think they work well. Some stains don't shift, but they items are clean, and to be honest, on a toddlers clothes, I'm not all that bothered if the stains don't 100% remove. They are much cheaper than using regular laundry detergent.
  14. Hi Saffron - I was PMd by one lady, and passed her the details. If anyone else is still considering, do get in touch with me and I will forward you the original email I received from the family. Thanks for the bump! xxx
  15. I have seen the new Harry Potter, and while really good, I do think that it is quite scary and definitely deserves it's rating of 12A.
  16. Hi everyone - I just received an email through the Weston Price Foundation from a member who lives in Southgate who's wife has terrible mastitis, and they hoping that someone might be able to donate breast milk to them directly for their 3 week old baby. I thought that I would post on here in case anyone had frozen expressed milk that they don't need? As I have had my own run-ins with mastitis this year I am wary of messing with my own supply by expressing, but thought I would share the details in case anyone else was in a position to donate. It is only short term as the mum will resume BF once the mastitis has cleared - she is feeding now but her supply is down. If you want more info please let me know. S
  17. Fuschia - do you know where abouts in Dulwich Park the WF meet? also, is there a minimum age? Thanks,S
  18. Saffron, that was the best post I have ever read on here. I have always believed in the power of garlic, and now I have a new reason to love it! You rock.
  19. I have had mastitis 3 times this year. It is awful Anna - so sorry for you. I found paracetamol really helped with the flu type symptoms. also, I took a hot shower every morning and every night, putting the shower head on the affected boob.Afterwards, do a feed, or express until all the milk has gone. Then, massaging the area through the day, and making sure the boob is empty after a feed. The first two times I had antibiotics, took a week to fully go though. Third time I avoided the antibiotics, caught it early i think and used the method above. Good luck. Oh, and the most important thing, which as a mum I know is pretty much impossible, is to rest as much as you can. Take any help you can get, because rest and naps will honestly make a huge difference. xxx
  20. has anyone seen away we go? there is a classic part in that about buggies.
  21. Just wanted to put a note to say how horrified I am by what has happened in Norway. I spent 3 years as girlfriend to a Norwegian, and lived in Oslo for a while and attended the University of Oslo, and can say that Norway is the most beautiful, peaceful and safe feeling place. It is such a terrible thing to have happened, and to children, I can't believe it. My thoughts go out to everyone affected. S x
