You've even managed to ruin the ones on your borders.

Surely there must be a backlash. I was in the Blythe tonight, what a great mix. People in to watch the footy, the trad Irish band, a young womens Gaelic football team, younger people in mixed and single gender groups having a great time. And not a hipster in sight, and no rows and rows of trendy ciders or 'craft ales' at the bar.

The last place I drank in was the Crystal Palace Tavern. RIP. Well you've got what you wanted.

Rising unit rents are only happening because of the chanting demographic and the disposable income available to them. When a family who grew up in ED with parents and grandparents born their, and are unable to afford a 4 bed house for themselves and kids, something is surely wrong. When a small indepedent convenience shop is also unable to do the same thing, the result is wealthy newcomers from the burbs and beyond renting and buying the commercial and resedential stock and changing the neighborhood.

As I've quite cleverly increased my wealth, I've noticed how stupid I've become

I buy stuff and enjoy myself, I hardly notice gentrification and have painted my door with Little Green Co Gloss paint

Where is this East Dulwich place I can't buy anything useful, I'd quite like to shop there

I really wouldn't want a pret in ED. I'm not sure why but the idea makes me cringe.

We know you love Space NK Louisa. That's fine you feel its okay to indulge in expensive toiletries. I just wish you'd understand other people want to indulge in expensive [fill in the blank] and their preferences aren't any better or worse than yours.

LM I'm thinking of shops that would be widely accessible to the larger community. For me, Space NK would be a great place to get gifts for special occasions such as Christmas and Birthday's. Pret a manger would be a great option for sandwiches to take out st lunchtime etc - these are both great examples of shops which cross the social boundaries. IMO Many of the chain boutiques do not do that.

Not all their moisturiser is that expensive, that's just a luxury example. For me, they're on a par with Body Shop (who I would also be happy to come and open a branch in ED if anyone from head office is reading this btw). Good quality beauty products do not have class boundaries, we all want to treat ourselves sometimes.

I have nothing against Pret, but there's no precedent for them opening up in suburban London... they're all in the centre.

Subway - there is one in Peckham, I often see school kids getting their breakfast in there (times have certainly changed!)

And your point is? Selective branch promotion isn't going to take away from the facts. They also have branches in;

Nottingham

Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Cheltenham

Bristol

Beaconsfield

And as you pointed out Manchester, Brighton, hardly bastions of wealth are they? It's just a shop that sells nice beauty products! Bromley doesn't need a branch it already has a Body Shop.

Yes snowy both! And like any city in the UK they have wealthy areas and poorer ones. But compared to some of the quoted stores above in high end pockets of London, Manchester and Brighton are hardly backing up any claim that this particular brand is somehow exclusive to certain neighborhoods!

This brand is definitely upmarket Louisa. Just by judging where they are in London makes that abundantly clear. Nothing wrong with that but just own the fact you like a posh chain.
