James, have you had any update on dates for this as it hasn't been closed so far.

I noticed work starting at the Jarvis Road entrance to Dulwich Hospital today, which I presume is Thames water given they'd left traffic cones there with signs restricting parking at the gate.

Thanks

No, sorry I don't. The brief was very clear. Perhaps they're working from Jarvis Road to the junction of Melbourne Grove with Grove Vale. I'll try and find out some more.

I sometimes feel Southwark Highways bods randomly make things up.

Wasn't working too well yesterday when someone had misjudged the gap and scraped all the side panels of their car down the side of a flatbed truck. Derwent Grove really doesn't work as a diversion as you can't generally pass 2 cars along it. Lots of gridlock and people getting out of their cars and swearing at each other after sitting and beeping horns.

James - Is there any chance that future diversions could be along main roads rather than sending traffic down a street that is totally inappropriate to accept it? - ie the diversion could have been along East Dulwich Grove, left to the roundabout and then along Grove Vale. I accept this is further, but it is all main roads where 2 cars can pass. A substantial amount of local traffic would use Derwent and Melbourne in any event, but it would reduce the overall amount.

Today the diversion seems to have been (partially- ie not all the signs have been moved) moved to Elsie Road. Cant help thinking that diverting onto a side street near an infant / junior school isn't particularly appropriate either. Official diversion via main roads would seem most appropriate -wouldn't stop the use of these side streets but also wouldn't force such a volume of traffic along them that they get blocked up

    • I personally think is a great idea Bobbly and would love if there was a section for it. I wouldn't offer free gardening under the "for sale" section as I would expect something in exchange and wouldn't expect our cat being looked after for free under the "wanted" section, as an example.

    • I have fond memories of Govinda's I used to go there  back in the 90's (maybe earlier) for an affordable tasty lunch..I was wondering if its still around. Now I have to make a point of going there. Does anyone else remember a really affordable basement cafe run by the church in a street off of Golden Square? parallel to Regent Street? I also used to love the Vegetarian cafe on Neal Street in the basement (Neal Street Cafe?) and there was an inczredible inexpensive authentic Japanese resturant I use to go to with my Japanese friends (who introduced me to it) tucked away behind Long Acre where that brown brick modern building ('modern' I think it went up in the 90's!) now stands that fronts Long Acre and Neal Street..I think it was called Asakasa or something?
    • I wonder where he could be deported to, Hungary the obvious candidate in Europe, perhaps he would get on well with Modi?   Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage both said Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood should look at whether Abd El Fattah's citizenship could be revoked to enable his swift removal from the UK. Farage said in a letter to Mahmood: "It should go without saying that anyone who possesses racist and anti-British views such as those of [Mr Abd El Fattah] should not be allowed into the UK." So just racists views are ok Nige?
