I am looking for recommendations for a doube buggy. I see lots of Phil and Teds in ED but are they really that good, or there is just nothing better around? I always feel sorry for the child sitting at the back of P&T as I wonder how much can they see ( not much I reckon).

And if P&T - what model???

And if not P&T - what instead?

My son will be just over 2 wigth baby2 is born so I don't think I can get away with a buggy board only (am I right?) - but how old do they need to be to use just the buggy board?

many thanks in advance!

We've got a P&T Vibe which has served us well over the last 21 months - they're a bit roomier than the other models and not as heavy. My kids fight over who gets to sit in the bottom, so it can't be that bad ;-) They really are the most practical double in terms of width, meaning you'll still be able to get into most shops and they fit on a bus - I had a side by side double for a while and it was a hassle getting it through doors.

Personally a buggy board has never been a hit with us - I find it really difficult to push a buggy with one attached, let alone convincing DS to stay on it for any length of time (sore legs, sore arms... you name it, he'll use it as an excuse!). Both of my kids walk a lot of the time now, but it's always useful to have the P&T for them if we're going longer distances, or if I need to get somewhere quickly.

We have a Jane powertwin tandem ... one seat in front of the other... fits throigh our narow front door but not nice to push for a long distance

WE also have a nipper side by side, it fits anywhere a wheelchair does... and it lies flat for a newborn, and is very light. ?300 new they are (nipper 360) Doesn't have much space to put shopping.

I tend to think the P&T is good for two with a gap, as the newborn can go under for a while (and the cocoon thing can be lifted in and out while the baby is asleep) and then by the time the new one starts to grumble, hopefully child no 1 is up for walking most of the time anyway... and you can use the seat under just for emergencies.

Having said that, I have never pushed one, some of them (not the vibe?) look very heavy.

If you need to fold the buggy to put into a car, or get it through a particular front door, then that will be a factor.

I'm also looking at Phil and Teds but does anyone know what's the difference between the Vibe and the Sport? You seem to pay a lot more for the Vibe but wasn't sure what extras you get. is the Vibe a lot lighter? Also, what's the best place to buy them online?

My son was very happy to get on the buggy board aged just under two and we now have the younger one on the buggy board (she is now two and three months but has been on the buggy board for about 6 months) while the lazy three year old sits in the buggy. We have a bugaboo Frog which has quite a spacious buggy board attachment, quite comfy for them I think.

We also have a Jane powertwin which is great. If you want to try it out let me know - we hardly use it any more so you are welcome to give it a spin.

We've been really happy with our Baby Jogger double buggy for our twin boys. They've been in it since newborn and they're 18 months now and it's still doing them fine.

It's slightly narrower than the Nipper, and folds in the middle so fits easily in the car. The separate hoods are good too for when one's dozing and his brother's wide awake!

I'm in a similar quandary - we originally bought a Vibe but sent it back as we had major probs with steering (wouldn't turn left after only a few lightweight uses) and the replacement sent out by Kiddicare did exactly the same so that went back too. A shame as otherwise we really liked it, wonder if it was a faulty batch as sounds like yours has been good Pickle? But found a few other online reviews saying had experienced same issue...

Have just got a buggy board for Maclaren but my two year old is not v keen. So still on the hunt.Has anyone tried a Joovy ultralight - stocked in mothercare? Looks like a good combo of built-in buggyboard but with slide out seat in case toddler wants to sit. May go to the Croydon shop to see if I can roadtest it!

SF, we've not had any problems with the Vibe. Ours was one of the very first ones made - so it does surprise me a little that it's been without fault as it's usually the early ones that have teething problems. The only thing we've had to do is replace two tyres (they're not very hard wearing in my opinion - my Bugaboo tyres still had heaps of tread on them after 18 months hard use, whereas the P&T ones were worn out after the same amount of time).

Vibe has been great for us BUT the second child isn't here yet so I can only speak for it from the size/pushing perspective, not from having two kids in there. While doing my research I really liked the Powertwin because of the better "democracy" in terms of seating but I tried to fit one in the boot of our car and couldn't get it in due to the front wheel not folding flat nor being detachable. See if someone who has one will let you try to fit one into your car (unless you have a people carrier or reasonably large estate - we couldn't get it into our large saloon).

Also think the Powertwin may be a bit bulky to get into shops, buses and playgroups but still wished I had the money and space for a Vibe and a Powertwin (latter as a backup in case the P&T seating arrangement doesn't work well while baby 1 is 4 months old and no longer comfy in the cocoon with the toddler 27 months old and not ready to walk) - oh and of course a single Maclaren Techno XT with a buggy board in the boot of the car LOL.

As for side by side buggies, I liked the idea at first but my toddler is very chunky and I just can't picture it working out with her sitting next to a newborn (buggy being pulled to one side, toddler not really fitting well, plus the width issue on pavements and in shops).

how does a p&t vibe fit a newborn and a toddler? had a look at one in a shop yesterday but couldn't work it out! does the newborn go in the top seat fully reclined while the toddler sits underneath? and if so, is there enough room for the toddler?

thanks.. :o)

I have a nipper 360 double and my friend tried it with a newborn and 4 year old. It worked just fine. If anyone is interested in seeing/trying to push different types of doubles we have a twins club meet up every other Thursday just outside Peckham Rye Cafe on Thursdays from 10:30-12:30. I will be there this week, 8 April with my buggy and I know some of my friends have other models. If it is raining we meet inside the cafe but please feel free to stop by and ask any questions.

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
