There is a huge Italian influence in Rye Lane these days with Pizza readily available nearby..

From memories of a disreputable youth spent in the catchment area of Youngs' sadly now defunct brewery in Wandsworth, mainly the Green Man up on Putney Heath and the Half Moon down by the river, because it made one very reckless very quickly. Haven't had one for many years, it was reminiscent of Kingsley Amis' proposed beer advert - "Amis beer - makes you drunk."

I know, so theoretically adding it to 4.5% Special would only ramp up the alcohol content by .25% a pint, but it seemed to have a much greater effect than Special on its own or Ramrod on its own - same as snakebite always seems stronger than its constituent parts. Maybe it was psychological...or maybe the fact that in those long gone glory days ten pints in a night was perfectly doable!

Ah well, I don't mind being a wimp! I do remember at Christmas one switched to Winter Warmer (5%) and Old Nick (7%) - very merry!

Gosh I remember snakebite & blackcurrant from my student union days! I think I'd probably quite like the more refined kir Breton version now.

Diesel in Scotland is something different I thought it was blueish/green in colour & had the ubiquitous 1980s blue curacao in it.

OP it's not even negroni anymore, it's *iced* negroni ;)

Hipster drink ruination, thy name is 'Pickleback'!

I like whiskey. I like pickled gherkins. But the combination I experienced in Hackney last week Is an abomination of both. One shot of whiskey (Jameson's - at least it wasn't decent stuff), chased by a shot of pickle brine. In case you're curious, I can assure you it tastes exactly how you would expect, involuntary gurn and all.

Yeah... what's that trendy bbq place in Soho called... went there soon after it opened and there were people in there downing shots of bourbon followed by a shot of pickle brine, probably blogging in real-time about how totally amazeballs it was. Waiter tried to get us to order it too... no frickin way...

    • You can get a card at the till, though, to get the discount. You don't have to carry it with you (or load it onto your phone), you can just get a different card each time. Not sure what happens if they notice 🤣
    • Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a  PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities
    • This sounds great 👍
    • We found a red TREK bike yesterday that had clearly been stolen and dumped. Would love to reunite it with its owner. Get in touch if you know whose it is.
