*Bob*
Harry Bloody Potter.Every time I see someone over the age of 12 reading one on the tube it makes me want to go on a murderous rampage with an Uzi. *Bob*
Good for you, Clare. I suppose with the extra-large print it wouldn't have taken too long to get through. clare
au contraire *bob* - I wish it had been large print- I'm going for a nice lie down now my eyes are so tired.......I feel a bit like you do with adults watching Lord of the Rings and Star Wars and stuff but I've enjoyed the Harry Potter series-my 13 year old daughter is currently curled up in bed still in her pyjamas reading it- just makes a nice change from Hollyoaks, excessive mascara wearing and myspace.(not that that is any excuse for me but I won't upset you by reading it in public. How about Northern Lights? Would that upset you too ?) Richard Weekes II
Hi there HP fans,I have not been to see the film yet and I bought a copy of the book on Saturday which my daughter took off me. Cos I'm old it just so happens that I'm not a speed reader and it looks like I won't get it back for now. I've been told by my friend's son who has seen the film that there is not even one mention or one scene about chess in the film. Can anyone who has read the book tell me please if chess is mentioned in the story. Thanks in advanceRichard the Chess man Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1112-harry-potter-deliveries/#findComment-29231 Share on other sites

Ladygooner
If you are talking about the film that is out at the moment, then yes, there is a chess scene in it? Jah Lush
Sorry, but I'm defintely with *Bob* on this issue. Grown ups reading childrens books shouldn't be allowed especially on public transport. Read a proper book, you're not a child anymore, get a life FFS. Keef
Oh come on Jah / *Bob*, it's not like we spend our time reading "where the wild things are"... Well actually Mrs Keef does have it, but she is a primary teacher (with a masters in Literature), so that's fair. For my part, if I want to forget that I am on my way to my sh!tty job, and escape in to a book, I will, even if it makes someone on the bus blush ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1112-harry-potter-deliveries/#findComment-29292 Share on other sites
mockney piers
I'm in the JL Bob gang on this too. After years of getting irked by people commuting with kids books, but seeing no significant increase in proper book reading, someone finally persuaded me that I can't judge until I've tried it.I read the first one. It was a kids book. And not an especially good one at that, though I'm sure kids would love it.So no, no interest in reading any of the others, unless london becomes so dangerous that they'd make useful stab vests. Keef
mockney piers Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> After years of getting irked by people commuting> with kids books, but seeing no significant> increase in proper book readingI don't think HP will cause lots of people to read more, not when there are things like Wii's and XBoxes to play with as soon as they finish the book (could even buy the Harry Potter games!).However, most of the people you'd see reading HP on the bus are people who probably read on the bus all the time... Well I do anyway, and HP is the only "kids book" I've read...I will say that I thought the first couple were pretty poor, but my sister (a very big reader) convinced me to stick with them, and I think the 3rd, 4th and 6th books were very good (5th was a waste of far far too much paper!). However, I am sure that it is impossible to change opinions now, particularly where there is a certain amount of snobbery involved ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1112-harry-potter-deliveries/#findComment-29294 Share on other sites

mockney piers
Call it snobbery if you will, I just figure life's too short to waste on the 1 billion words* that the six books comprise.P J Heather's fall of the Roman Empire, interesting; May edition of Razzle, interesting; Harry Potter and the cake bake of flim-flam, sh*t.*I may exaggerate juuust a tad.
