I'd rather the country went back to the polls and provide the Tories with a clear majority government than being held to ransom by Clegg. If the public are so strongly in favour of PR they would've voted Liberal in the first place...maybe the Tories will cop out and meet them half way by promising a national referendum.

Other things aside, I was really pleased to see the myth of the "significance" - as insisted on by the various infatuated print and broadcast media - of the so-called "live debates" blown out of the water. It seems after all that they did Clegg no good at all and had minimjal-to-no effect on people's voting on the day.

Not really, SimonM. I think that, had there only been one debate, then you would have seen more of an effect for the LibDems. The LibDems support had been slowly ebbing away in the weeks following their peak just after the first debate. It gave the Lab/Tory papers and the election machines time to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt.

On the other hand, I think Cameron's rather solid showing in the last debate gave the Tories a late extra couple of percent.

And Gordon's rather scary attempt at smiling during all three debates put the bejeesus up everyone! If they ever want to do a remake of 'Psycho', they could do worse than cast Mr Brown's smile.

You overlook what a small proportion of the electorate actually watched the things. The 1st got 9 million - big vurioisdity factor? - the 2nd only 4 million. I venture to suggest that the vast najority of viewers were the more politically well-informed and/or already decided. I see nothing to persuade me that the final voting figures/seats for the three main parties would have been any different had there been no debates at all

All this uncertainty... except if any of the people mentioned on this thread become PM, I think I'd want to leave too!

The UK has enjoyed a lovely meal (dessert wine and chocs included) and the bill has now arrived. So living in these 'last days', we will all need to survive as best we can.

I've got an air rifle and a fishing rod and luckily the mackerel season is upon us ;-)

Is there....

Someone called "Peater"..?

( how weird was that, I was thinking "andre" & the commentator on "match of the day" said "on comes AndreArshavin" )

Because I can't think of one, so it might be nice this time to have a Prime Minister called Peater ( spelt the unusual way too )

Just for a change, like

    • If you are looking for a trustworthy professional, I highly recommend Niko. He has consistently delivered quality work. No job is too small, and he is always accommodating. He has helped me out on a number of occasions, often at short notice when unexpected issues arose. His number is 07818 607583.
    • Well, they do turn them away from the A&E route at Kings and rightly so they employ GPs and if after triaging you’re determined to have a GP type problem you are sent to see one of the GPs on site or close to the site.
    • My bike (a ELOPS 120 step over classic from Decathlon) was stolen from outside The Belham this afternoon. I locked it up while I collected my kids, then the street was so busy that I left it there while I walked them home. Did a few other things at home, came back about 5.30pm and it was gone. Sharing just in case anyone sees it or finds it anywhere - it’s a few years old and the chain is a bit rusty/makes a clicking sound so maybe there’s a slight chance someone would dump it! Really annoying and just a reminder to be really careful with bikes. The picture shows the bike model from the Decathlon website.
    • Thanks, I didn't know that.  People are even more stupid than I thought then, if they are willing to wait hours in A&E for an ingrown toenail. I presume they don't get put at the front of the queue. Why isn't the 111 service more widely advertised? That puts you in touch with a doctor, who will advise on the phone or visit, and if necessary  you will be advised to go to A&E or they will arrange an ambulance to take you.
