AllyCat
Has anyone had to take their wedding dress abroad before? We're flying to Bermuda next week for our wedding blessing and I don't want to put my dress in the hold of the plane - I'd rather have it as my hand luggage.... has anyone any advice on how it's best transported - in a large suit carrier or a small suitcase - or maybe a box?Any advice gratefully received......Thank you! Michael Palaeologus
Wear it on the flight. You might get an upgrade. Especially if the Onion wears his skirt. Pickle
I took mine all the way from London to NZ as handluggage - it was in a big white plastic dress carrier which folded up on itself to form a bag. On the flights (Singapore Airlines) they were really accommodating and hung it in the crew uniform area so that it hung down straight.I've never had so many people talk to me in an airport before, was definitely a talking point while in transit in Singapore. And we got lots of champagne from the air stewards too :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11294-traveling-with-wedding-dress/#findComment-323596 Share on other sites

Izodia
A colleague packed hers into a hand luggage sized suitcase. Then she hung it in a steamy bathroom and any creases just dropped out. AllyCat
Thanks for the advice... my dress came in a white plastic dress bag which folds over (sounds like yours Pickle) but I didn't know if they would let me have that as hand luggage...I like the idea of the boxes but they are so flippin' expensive!Traveling with BA - so I hope they are nice to us! Keef
Our bass player got married in New York last year, and when they boarded the plane with the dress in a carrier, they were upgraded to first class, so you never know... dulwichmum
Lovely AllyCat,I have flown first Class to Jamaica - about ten years ago, and when a bride checked in with her dress, she was automatically upgraded with her groom (naturally I complained). Further, they hung her dress carefully in the special closets they have in first. What I would recommend is that you purchase an over the door hanger for in the hotel. You know, something like this, but for a very thick door - just to make sure that you can let the dress spread out when you arrive.http://www.organizeit-online.com/images/1657.jpg Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11294-traveling-with-wedding-dress/#findComment-323962 Share on other sites
