nylonmeals
This may sound a stupid question but I need to take a mini cab with my 10 week old. Do mini cabs take babies? Do you have to request a car seat and what happens in black cabs?? Thanks! curlykaren
black cabs, you just push your buggy into the back and put on brake, easiest thing ever, and, the only way I would travel if I had bottomless pockets. Do you have your own car seat? If not would have to request they send a mini cab with one, do so in advance as might not be easy x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11376-babies-in-mini-cabs/#findComment-324892 Share on other sites
marscapone
I think it's legal to go in a minicab without a carseat - not that it would be my choice to travel without a carseat, but useful to know in case you need to for any reason. Or perhaps take baby in a sling? We requested a carseat for a trip to the airport and car arrived without one, despite my double-checking the day before and being assured we would get one. Too late then to call a new cab, so we used our own and insisted the driver return it to our house which he did. pommie
Think you have to tell them you have a baby and when we used a mini cab we had to take our own car seat with us. apenn
I've used this service before and they have always shown up with the requested seat. Sometimes instead of sending a car with a seat they send a minivan that has one of those built in child seats. And sometimes when they send the car seat it's not installed and the driver doesn't know how to do it. It really depends on which driver you get.-Ahttp://www.englandtransfers.com/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11376-babies-in-mini-cabs/#findComment-324918 Share on other sites
Belle
Addison Lee have seats built into some cars (you have to request them) but only for 1yr and up. I think in a black cab you can in theory strap buggy into disabled bit though admit have not done it myself. Where are you going? Just wondering if it's somewhere where having car seat might be handy since your baby is still quite wee. I guess this is where travel systems come into their own...never had one but was quite jealous when realised it was easier in terms of cars/cabs. Fuschia
We use a company whose name I can't remember who are usually pretty good though once or twice we have had to use our own seat, and they have kept it in the boot and tirned up to ferry us home on the return journey! LeilahB
hello nylonmeals! do I know you?! Reliable Cars in HH (who I think serve ED as well) have a service where you can ask for a baby seat (think it costs about 2 quid) - I use them a lot - number is 020 8671 6666. prdarling
I find that's it's fairly easy to get a seat for an older baby - ie forward facing, but impossible to get a rear facing baby seat. Having said that, most of the cabs I have taken with my children have turned up with the most unsafe looking contraptions imaginableDo you have a baby seat that fits onto your pram? If not you'll either have to take it with you I'm afraid Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11376-babies-in-mini-cabs/#findComment-325127 Share on other sites
Moos
Sorry to be flippant, but is anyone else reading the title of this thread having visions of babies driving around joy-riding in minicabs? new mother
I jsut fold up the pram - you take the carrycot thing off if still at that stage and collapse the chassis, leave in boot of minicab - then I sit with the baby around me, in a Baby bjorn. Then you have the pram at the other end, which might be useful. Keef
We've taken our baby in a minicab a few times, in the sling.Lets be honest, most car seats aren't that safe anyway, so what's the problem.
