D
Hi there, does anybody know/know where to find out about whether it is safe to continue breastfeeding your first baby while pregnant with the second? Is it too much of a demand on your body? Could it lead to an increased risk of your body rejecting the foetus? ThanksD Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11390-breastfeeding-while-pregnant/ Share on other sites
monniemae
It's fine. Unless you have a history of premature labour. A google search will throw up numerous reliable sources. x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11390-breastfeeding-while-pregnant/#findComment-325326 Share on other sites
Fuschia
It's Ok, though it can make you feel very prickly and irritable. And milk supply may dry up/taste change so the baby rejects it Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11390-breastfeeding-while-pregnant/#findComment-325333 Share on other sites
Pickle
I fed my son (then 9 months) when I was pregnant with my daughter. No problems for us, although son did self-wean a couple of months later which I think was due to the milk changing etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11390-breastfeeding-while-pregnant/#findComment-325338 Share on other sites
Helen GV
I'm currently pregnant and breastfeeding. According to what I read the foetus gets what it needs first so you don't need to worry- as long as you are eating well and feel ok then everyone should be getting what they need. I was hoping my little boy would self-wean but it hasn't happened yet! echo
I'm also 6 months pregnant and still b/f. I was hoping that my 22 month old would self wean, but if any thing she has just started to want MORE!!I am probably eating a little too much (as I've put on weight)- but such is life it seems at these times.. I will confess I am a little worried about how my daughter will cope with the competition- we will have to wait a see..Respect due to Fuschia- extended b'f of twins.. wow! littleEDfamily
Blooming heck - I can barely feed myself while preggers, let alone two toddlers. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/11390-breastfeeding-while-pregnant/#findComment-325753 Share on other sites
Fuschia
echo Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I will confess I am a little worried> about how my daughter will cope with the> competition-Mine need to stop before the new baby comes, really, as they tend to squabble over their favourite side even when they have one each, as at present. Can't see them being very impressed at having to share with a baby, so while I'd probably be quite laid back feeding a newborn if I had a toddler still feeding sometimes, I can't quite picture it in our current circumstances!! GinaG3
Its absolutely fine to breastfeed whilst pregnant, there is no sudden need to wean. You may find your baby self weans in the first trimester due to a change in the taste of your milk, or maybe around the four month mark when some women notice a reduction in their milk supply. Your child may well carry on for longer than you'd expect, even through the colostrum and beyond. If you are both happy to feed, continue to do so, it will not cause any harm. You may find your baby is more keen to breastfeed during your pregnancy also. Will be 2 3/4 when the new one comes... yes, I will be the one with a double buggy and either a newborn in a sling or one twin hanging off a buggy board trying to grab things off of shelves. That's if we ever leave the house again, of course!
