Large Honking Horn for the handlebars!

This can be purchased at Evans and shops alike. The horn with a button is placed on the handlebar, then a bottle with a tube (connecting to the handlebar horn) is place in a bottle holder. There is a special valve on the bottle that allows you to pump it up, more air in the bottle the bigger........Honk!

Good Luck.

If I'm caught completely by surprise, I normally say "dude, that the f*ck?", which I find highly embarassing as I never normally say 'dude'...I mean who does??? Seems it's a subconscious outbust. If they end up going in the same direction as me I normally overtake them and point out they just made a very silly/dangerous move.

Better than most of the other options available Sir ;-)

But that's the point LOL! I mean...you are nearly 40...and you say "Dude". I never say "Dude", but that's because I'm only 21...(which makes binary_star around 15...)

*grins cheekily and pedals away at speed*

I wanted to shout at an idiot cyclist tonight but since I was a pedestrian, I figured he'd ignore me whatever I called him.

He was at the lights in Brixton weaving stupidly wearing black, no front light and apparently no rear light. The car in the lane next to him wasn't going particularly fast and was staying back but when he did cross into that lane (so that he could cycle across the pedestrian crossing which was on red man with no-one pedestrians crossing), he stopped and started shaking his fist and badmouthing the driver. Then he cycled across the remainder of the crossing (dodging a bus) and off. He did have a rear light - it was a tiny spark of one - utter tosser.

Thanks for the link LM, I've signed.

Ms Mock!

You are a star for posting the London Marathon Ride, and....... Me thinks I need to retract the initial submission inter alia.... to the latt?, it was an oversight me lady!

BTW, I'm hoping that we will be in the S'wark News this week - I live just out of the area so if you know anyone who gets the paper ... could you ask them to take a peep and save a copy for me.

Finally, back to you! I have just posted a 2.5Km / 5Km fun Walk & Jog for mid Jan (Date TBC), no running or racing, powerwalking, jogging or a bit of both. Its to raise awareness of all the great things the local NCT do for the community, you can now set your sights on that B)

Gosh, that comes across as some kind of device for men of a certain age with, ahem, dysfunction :-S

I'll check out the cycles stores, but my credo these days is ABE: Anywhere But Evans (after they shafted me over two wheels' worth of spokes on a not-cheap bike).

Yes,

Its a guy thing, and yes... ABE. I did buy the 'device' at Evans a few years back as it was local but.... I always go to Halfords now as the decimal point is closer to the LHS ??. They have great service and easy to park in Brixton and most other locations too.

I'm now waiting to see Ms Mock's comments, and they will be just minutes away. I think she will drill into the dysfunction part :-)

Can't think what you could be insinuating - unless, of course, you are referring to the fact that you recently celebrated a 62nd birthday?

*pedals through the red lights*

Ms Mock!

You are decread by the 'Lying Toad' the funniest person I know with such wit! Wow, can't wait to my 63rd birthday, I bet I won't feel a day over 46?!

And on that, you have given the Lying Toad a great idea - won't tell just yet!

The Lying Toad,

McCabe.

A great idea?

Gawd...help us all!

PS: we don't receive Southwark News (far too posh round our way), but there is a stand outside an estate agent which holds them...if I remember to do so, I shall procure one for you. Presumably you want the one published after this Sunday (i.e. following your cycling marathon) - yes?

    • London doesn’t have a lot of Argentinian places specialising in empanadas, which suggests demand isn’t that great. There are many neighbourhoods with none at all or even nearby.  So for a mini-chain like Chango (several branches in SW London) to open here where there’s already a well established family run place doing the same feels a bit off.  I’ll be giving Chacarero my ongoing custom.
    • This is so helpful, everyone, thank you. @green bean Yes we have just (as of yesterday) installed the same external blinds you mention! We already had blackout blinds and we now have the external awnings too. Of course that will guarantee the end of the summer sunshine but I can see that they're going to be helpful as they let the light through but not the glare of the sun - I'm fed up of working in darkness with both the blackout blinds closed on sunny days. We'll see how we go with those for a bit but I reckon we'll get a couple of quotes from the other recommendations in case we end up going the whole hog. @penfold Love the idea of getting solar+batteries to offset the electricity usage so will look into that.  Thanks, all.
    • Yes Sally, I've emailed him several times since Xmas. I don't contact Councillors frequently but when I've done so over the years, I've found them generally engaged and responsive. It's unprecedented to just be ignored and, regardless of the query I'm raising, that's worrying from the point of view of  our local democratic voice. Its a Councillors role to represent local people! A different thread on here made reference to a lack of response from one of our ward councillors and, since there are only two, I'm guessing it's the same one. I'm following up my own concern separately but I'm asking on here about whether others have had the same problem. I'd like to think it's a one-off but, increasingly, I suspect it's not. Hope that gives a bit more context!
