How do I keep flies out of the house. We're lucky enough to live in a tall Victorian house with a small roof terrace. The spare bedroom (aka the study) looks out onto the terrace and London - I like to keep the door open while working if weather is fine. However, every bloody fly in SE22 seems to gradually rise to the top of the house and dance around the study.

I've tried flypapers but they avoid them. Fly sprays are not the sort of solution I'm thinking of and anyway the effect would be diluted by fresh air. What can I do?

The bag needs to be clear. Apparently, the flies see a much bigger reflection of themselves and stay away. It's a common practice in Spain.

    • Steve used to joke that my old VW Golf kept them in business. I've got a more reliable car now so maybe that's why they are closing. Sad day.
    • Is Dell Autos closing down completely or just moving? For whatever it's worth, for MOTs I've had good recent experience with The Test Centre in Deptford. They only do MOTs so they don't have any particular incentive to fail you and they usually have same day appointments. Open 7 days a week and late. https://www.thetestcentre.co.uk/our-test-centres/deptford-branch/ Obviously you would still need a "normal" garage to do servicing and repairs etc.
    • So what is the issue? You want compensation for the loss of value, or you want to expedite the matter?
    • No. What happened? I actually thought, considering it was what we used to call Guy Fawkes Day last night, the loud noises from  fireworks ended remarkably early. About 9pm? Maybe I just fell asleep and didn't hear any later ones. Do people actually burn Guys any more? Apart from at places like Lewes, where I believe they still have Bonfire Societies and burn effigies of various political figures etc.
