so nunhead is peckham then ??? you better tell the post office getting wrong all these years, let alone the welcome to nunhead sign.

Peckham and Dulwich have so many historical ties that it seems odd how officialdom recognises where boundary lines start and stop. I know that from Goose Green playground running along Adys RD north to Oglander (and roads coming off to the right) it comes under SE15. However, many estate agent websites claim that roads as far north as Bellenden come under East Dulwich.

Agreed, but I think everyone would consider Forest Hill Road and East Dulwich Road as sensible eastern and northern borders respectively, which puts the new Jaflong, being on the north side of EDR, into Peckham Rye I'd say.

Bit of a can of worms actually.

Some people consider Nunhead as being actually Peckham.

Some people don't :)

Already have!

No point banging head against brick wall any further.

The fox is always "right". Let's just leave it there.

I don't take kindly to being accused of lying, but hey ho, those who know me know I am a truthful person, so WTF.

Well Lou... What ever was said or not said.. a long while back on this sensitive issue. One thing is for sure..

The lady cannot be trusted to keep it to herself. But to come on here spurting out what WOULD of been a private off the cuff comment ?

Then it is I that deserves an apology.

As far as I know is will be 25th Aug. (Thursday) Speaking to Ruhul at Jaflong (1) they have already booked music for that night.

I have been told it is a Ticket event but will confirm here if Jaflong do not update.

But don't shoot the messenger if this don't happen.

Sue and I often have a pop on here. We are neighbours and neither of us are nasty or hold a grudge.

Nyge is alright guy.. who likes a quiet life. :)

They are not regulars at Curry Club. About time you made an appearance.

Whenever the next one might be. Getting withdrawal symptoms..

I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member.

A totally cosmetic but commercially relevant point. That Jaflong signage, seriously, what were they thinking? Being a complete snob aside, what a waste of a golden opportunity to make the business relevant and catapult it into the 21st century from the get go. With something like 76% of consumers saying they enter a business they've never visited before based simply on signage. If i'd wanted to make a proper go of it and capture passing trade, I'd have gone all hipster on their arses, inspiring an "oooooh, let's try that" instead of an "oh look another generic indian restaurant." It's not like there isn't a plethora of good examples in the area to take note of....

That aside, good luck to them

As much as I love a nice curry, I am baffled by the number of pizza and curry based restaurants within the vicinity whilst we are still lacking a decent Mexican place. Someone needs to pull their finger out soon and get a wrap/burrito specialist into the neighborhood.

That's alright ... You do not need to join and there is no membership.

Wasn't that place on the corner next to Surma, which used to be another Indian restaurant but which has had a new sign outside for ages (XOCO?) supposed to be a Mexican restaurant?

There has been very little sign of any refurbishment activity inside.

Anybody know what has happened/is going to happen, if anything?

ETA: We used to have a Mexican restaurant on Lordship Lane - it just wasn't a very good one ..... on the stretch where GBK is.

    • Yes, these are all good points. I agree with you, that division has led us down dangerous paths in the past. And I deplore any kind of racism (as I think you probably know).  But I feel that a lot of the current wave of xenophobia we're witnessing is actually more about a general malaise and discontent. I know non-white people around here who are surprisingly vocal about immigrants - legal or otherwise. I think this feeling transcends skin colour for a lot of people and isn't as simple as, say, the Jew hatred of the 1930s or the Irish and Black racism that we saw laterally. I think people feel ignored and looked down upon.  What you don't realise, Sephiroth, is that I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I just think that looking down on people because of their voting history and opinions is self-defeating. And that's where Labour's getting it wrong and Reform is reaping the rewards.
    • @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
    • I'd quit this thread, let those who just want to slag Labour off have their own thread.  Your views on the economy are worth debating.  I'm just stunned how there wasn't this level of noise with the last government.  I could try to get some dirt on Badenoch but she is pointless  Whilst I am not a fan of the Daily Mirror at least there is some respite from Labour bashing. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/grenfell-hillsborough-families-make-powerful-36175862 https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/nigel-farage-facing-parliamentary-investigation-36188612
    • That is a bit cake and eat it tho, isn’t it?    At what point do we stop respecting other people’s opinions and beliefs  because history shows us we sometimes simply have no other choice  you are holding some comfort blanket that allows you to believe we are all equal and all valid and we can simply voice different options - without that ever  impacting on the real world  Were the racists we fought in previous generations different? Were their beliefs patronised by the elites of the time? Or do we learn lessons and avoid mistakes of the past?   racists/bigots having “just as much to say” is both true and yet, a thing we have learnt from the past. The lesson was not “ooh let’s hear them out. They sound interesting and valid and as worthy of an audience as people who hold the opposite opinion”
