First aid for new borns?

Hi, do any of you have any advise for getting some first aid for new babies. My little one is 6 weeks old and would like to know some basic first aid....

Hi there. There are lots of courses out there - Red Cross etc run them. Some Children's Centres and SOuthwark do them as well. I went on a free course at Ivydale Children's Centre so I'm sure other places do then as well.

I recently arranged one for 13 forumites. We got London Ambulance to come out for us free of charge one Saturday morning and we hired The Herne Tavern function room for ?20. As we left, The Herne did say if anyone else wanted to run a similar course they would offer the function room for free providing a member of staff could be trained in return. It was super easy to arrange and lovely to meet some of the forum members in person. If you need any more details feel free to PM me.

I'd certainly like to attend if there is a course around... I feel it is a huge (and critical) gap in my parenting.

I did buy some books from Amazon but it's not the same.

I arranged one through theparentcompany - they were good but pricey (in my opinion - but hey, you can't put a price on your little ones safety can you!)

Thanks for the replies. I've phoned the ambulance service, and they can come to my anti natal group. 'New Mother' you are welcome to join us... It will be on a Wednesday after lunch as that's when we meet up. PM me if you are interested, as we are meeting up tomorrow and will work out a date and arrange it with the ambulance service.

HI 'Nylonmeaks' yes London Ambulance Service is 020 778 2534. They come and visit you, you just need a venue... Up to 12 people per group.. And its free.

i did one through st john's ambulance and it was very well run - 2 day course cost about ?90

Have tried to call the London Ambulance Service number and left several messages on tehir voicemail, with no response:o( Has anyone used them recently and/or does anyone know of an alternative number?

Problem solved. Apparently the person responsible for booking people in has been on annual leave for weeks and is not due back till mid August. There is also no availability until end of September. Given I'm trying to organise this for my NCT group (who are all due in Sept), I have to look for an alternative...
