Gutted - I did say didn't I Jah? LadyG also predicted that they'd come undone playing Spurs too. (This will be the arse biting I was talking about)

Back to the Liverpool of last season where we can't kill of the game with a second goal. Gomes has been pants for you lot this season and how we didn't capitalise on that I will never know. Bring back Fernando.

I guess those who support the top 4 will never have any idea how it feels to suffer through that dross. Their idea of a night mare is a couple of losses. The sense of relief is palpable. Heres hoping both Bolton and Newcastle get tonked today...every man for himself.

Totally agree quids. Have said from the start it's Chelsea's season, and relegation fight is absolutely staggering, which at least shows that outside the top four (go on villa, please make football interesting) it's jolly competitive.

I'm inclined to agree we'll be pottering around just outside the relegation zone for most of the season, but I think ultimately we'll be ok.

And absolutely Boneyard. I've always said I love Engerlund because it teaches all the fans of the top clubs what it's like to support a team where a win is more than simply an expectation.

I have seen some really soft Gerrard penalties over the years but tonight's was truly Olympic class!

Profit and Loss is shown net of commission.

I took a bet of ?124 that there would be less than 1.5 goals in the game 30 seconds b4 the Penalty!

What happened to Chelsea tonight - were Roma that good? Is that the Roma that were beaten 7-0 by Man U last season?

Typical Away performance by many decent teams, namely plenty of possession but no real penetration and Roma scored against the run of play to go in with a lucly 1/0 Lead.

Second-half they caught Chelsea on the break twice!

From my view from the Kop it wasn't a pen. However the handball about 15 mins earlier most certainly was. What goes around and all that......

Think the ref had a shocker tonight, but will wait and watch the match again before I go to town on that one.

The Atletico fans were amazing. They totally took over our usual bar and sang out Torres and Garcia songs all the way up to the match. Even a couple of verses of the Steven Gerrard song. A lovely friendly bunch. Shame that the same can't be said about my experiences at Stamford bridge the weekend before last.

Obviously pleased with the point after the 90 minutes. The TV commentators kept saying Liverpool deserved at least a point. Have to say I'm not sure they deserved any more than they got, Atletico were well worth at least their point from where I was watching!

No biggy anyway, they're both as good as through.

I'm starting to get really bored of the champs league. Love the knock out stage, but group stage is shite!

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
