If it wasn't for the fact that our goalkeeper Gomes is a bit like Dracula - he hates crosses - it would have been four-nil to Spurs. Mind you, I agree Liverpool should have had a penalty but we were by far the better team last night. I can't believe the form we're in at the moment since Harry has taken over. I just hope we can keep it going to the end of the season.

I don't think they'll be any cash on the table for Harry to bring players in but he's pretty good at wheeling and dealing in the market and our top priority has to be a goalkeeper.

Also, Harry has made the best start to a managerial reign at Tottenham for 110 years (five wins and a draw) and ironically the manager at that time, Frank Brettall moved on to manage Portsmouth.

The goalkeeping situation for England at the moment is a strange one. There is a lengthy list of possible to successors to, essentially, David Seaman's jersey. Yet none really stand out head-and-shoulders above the rest. Some of the performances from the below between the sticks this season have been excellent though....

James

Robinson

Kirkland

Carson

Green

Turnbull

Hart

But to choose one for a consistent England place seems problematic. James won't last much more than another year so seems nothing more than a stop-gap solution. Robinson was dreadful but seems to have found a new lease of life at Blackburn. Last weekend he nearly stopped Chelsea single-handed.

Gomez does actually look like Nosferatu as well. Theres no getting away from it hes shite and has cost us a lot of goals this season. Thats fine when your winning but when we're up against it hes going to start costing us games. Still, nice to see Ronnie Corbett come on in his place!

I believe Almunia will soon be a serious contender as he is due to get his British passport soon.......

To be fair, he does have Casillas and Reina ahead of him and he has only been our first team regular for a season

Not as many as you, I'd hazard a guess - but through the magic of TV replays/highlights, press commentary and having a few Arsenal-supporting mates I thought it was a common assumption that he's not looked as steady as last season.

I'm happy to stand corrected though if you say different.

Nothing against him being Spanish old bean just that he's a Gooner and he's not as good as the English goalkeepers that are available.

Right thats enough Gooner bashing!

    • There's probably a bigger discussion on why we celebrate Christmas (pagan/religious festival) and why everything has to shut down.  I've enjoyed Xmas days in Spain, Mexico and France where some businesses and restaurants are open, and in a number of non-Christrian countries.  In both sets of occasions it has been festive, but not over the top and the Spanish seem to have a more relaxed attitude in a country where the church is probably more important than the UK.  A Lounge conversation.  I'll no doubt be popping into the Forest Hill Road supermarket on Xmas day for things we have forgotten, with many others in a similar situation who grew up in the Christian faith (I've long since been an atheist).
    • Would anyone have ends of balls of wool, any colour, to mend an old blanket? Any colour? With thanks Mila
    • I’m not a Gail’s fan but there’s no reason a business shouldn’t open on Christmas Day. However, nobody should be compelled to work the day which, given the widespread coverage of Gail’s questionable employment practices, has to be a possibility here.  The only business I ever use on the 25th is maybe a pub and that’s a rarity these days but buses running would be very welcome for visiting etc. But the swings in the park should definitely remain chained up. Are parks even open on Christmas Day?
    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
