Advice - moving house do's and don'ts

We are hoping to complete on our flat sale and house purchase next month. I have had mixed responses to this question so thought i'd pose it here...

Are we required to fill in any holes left by our pictures/shelves and repaint the walls when we leave our current home? I would not expect our vendor to do this in the place we are buying but have been told to do it by some friends and a removal man who came to give us a quote. Other friends have said don't bother. Confused.

No you are not unless you make a huge hole but things like picture hooks are fine. Most I have ever done is give it a bit of a cursory clean but given most people will clean it when the they move in even this probably isn't necessary.

It's not necessary, but it would be nice.

You could spend all day fixing minor things. Let the new owners do it - they'll likely redecorate anyway - it's all part of the pleasure of moving in to a new home.

Much more important to make sure that there's a working bulb in every light fitting, and loo paper in every loo.

I've always left by buyer a bottle of prosecco in the fridge, with a good luck post it note - I find it can smooth over any minor annoyances at the end of a hectic moving day :D
