Two rescued Greek stray puppies looking for loving homes

Recommended Posts

Hi,

During my holiday in Greece this year, as I was walking through a country road near Athens, these two beautiful pups jumped out from the fields howling in desperation and craving love, help and attention.

Abandoned in the middle of nowhere. I had walked the same road another 5 times the previous couple of days, so these pups had clearly been abandoned that day and left to die from starvation, dehydration or be killed by speeding cars.

I could never leave them there, and there is a country road with speeding cars that passes by the fields, and took them home with me, where they are kindly being fostered by a lady.

However, she cannot look after them for much longer, and we are desperately looking for serious people who can offer loving homes for these two beautiful doggies here in the UK, as nothing has been found in Greece.

It would be amazing if they could be adopted together, because they are inseparable, and never leave each other's side. But even if they have to go to separate homes we have to look at the big picture overall.

The brown and white pup is a girl and the black pup is a boy, and should become medium sized dogs.

They will need to be microchipped, vaccinated and have their passports made. I'm willing to contribute to the costs of those, but am also on a limited budget. I am making inquiries to find the most affordable option for these.

Their transport from Athens, Greece--> UK needs to be covered by the new owners, but am in contact with a lady, Elaine Karmasyn, who helps many Greek strays and the cost of travel is very reasonable.

It will be 80 Euros per dog from Athens-> Brussels and then Pet passport control in France is ?18 per dog.

I would also please ask for a discretionary donation towards the lady's extra costs, such as petrol during car transport from Brussels to UK and her costs to get to the UK. She runs the foundation Greek Strays and does a lot of fantastic work.

Thanks very much,

Anelia Samaropoulos

There seems to be a big problem for strays in Greece.

I worked a summer season many years ago in Corfu and children tried to flog stray pups to tourists (and workers) all the time. Unfortunately, without all the right jabs etc. it's a non-starter.

It sounds like the lady you're talking about is doing a fine job though :)

Nope, someone trying to find a home for two stray puppies is a long way away from what I find distasteful

Good luck anelia, you really are a kind soul for helping these little ones

I don't think it's distasteful in anyway. I think what you've done is highly commendable and if I had the money / space / time etc etc I'd help out. My only concern is we have enough shelters full of unwanted dogs here of our own. What Greece (and other countries for whom these charities work tirelessly and with little money) is funding for education and vaccinations to bring the doggie population down. Another charity is K-9 Angels but I know they are stretched, too.

That said, I do hope they find a loving home very soon :) Keep us updated.

I agree with Take Note. We have - very sadly - any number of neglected, unwanted, abused pets who are much more cheaply and with less impact on CO2 levels housed here. Tackling the problem in Greece and other places with education, neutering etc would be a better way of going about things, though I understand why people want to help in any way they can.

no, Alice.... I don't.

Showing compassion for another creature is never 'distateful' and should only be encouraged.

Perhaps chanelling it into something proactive would also be beneficial - education, working with charities to raise awareness/ funds etc to relieve the problem at the outset....

    • Hi. I hope everyone is well. I’m just wondering if anyone in the East Dulwich area has a working VHS/DVD Combi unit that records from VHS to DVD.  Or if anyone is willing to allow me to borrow or lend it for a time until I get all my videos transferred over. I am looking for a few on eBay but either they do not have the recording function or they are just too expensive.  If anyone can help I would be so grateful.  My current one which is a Sharp make started recording fine after years of not being used, then all of a sudden it stopped and hasn’t worked since. When I put a tape in and try, the machine shuts down, and the play button on the remote seems stuck. Thank you to anyone in advance that would be so kind enough to help xx
    • A quick update - my InPost parcels are being accepted sporadically at Barry's, but only one at a time and every few days, after many refusals - one was refused SEVEN times over about ten days - and several phone calls. As a comparison, I had a message from Yodel that a parcel that was going to Barry's is being delivered to another nearby store, which is interesting...
    • The "Community Benefits" are documented on P12-16 of the Consultation Document. Basically unsubstantiated estimates that it benefits local businesses, claims that it provides "opportunities" for local food traders, businesses & people (the term "opportunities" being meaningless - I have opportunities to win the lottery) without any details, facts or figures, and discounted tickets for local residents (which unsurprisingly seldom sell out). The only direct financial benefit to the Park is a £1000 "Biodiversity Fund" and an undisclosed amount for an "Environmental Impact Fee" - looking at how it was spent this year (flower beds in the playground & Sexby garden) I suspect it would be a similarly small figure. The actual site hire fee - claimed as "commercially sensitive" and therefore undisclosed - is spent on: • Funding the council’s free events programme and Cultural Celebrations Fund • Subsidised fees for community events in the borough • Off-setting the running costs of the Events service, which supports the delivery of the free community events programme  Again, no details given, just vague concepts - can anyone name any of these free & subsidised community events? Or what the "Cultural Celebrations Fund" is or does? It doesn't really sound like any of it is worth  the disturbance, restrictions, noise, litter, environmental damage and negative impact on wildlife in our Park.
    • The organisers must have spent a fortune on the display..imagine how p**s*d off they must have been!!!! Blink and you missed it kind of thing
