I agree - Peckham Rye Park is looking fabulous this year. I spend a lot of time there with two young children and although they are generally more interested in the playground, my four year old often comments on the 'nice flowers' when we walk through the Sexby garden. (He is also fascinated by the blue water in the fountain and asks me every time why it's that colour.....answers on a postcard please)

Someone said in another thread that they'd asked a gardener in the park who said the fountain/pond was being cleaned, but that was weeks ago, I can't believe the water's still blue, it's vile !

Have you seen the meadows? I thought they were just overgrown patches of grass, but on closer inspection they are deliberately left to grow naturally and wild. They have plaques fronting them, exlaining the meaning of the word 'Meadow' and they look very nice close up, I have only noticed two but there could be more.

I have always loved the flowers in the park and when I have visitors staying, I try to make a point of taking them on a walk through the park to explore the various gardens.

Agree with all of the above. I feel hugely privileged to live so close to such a wonderful park with such fantastic resources. The Sexby garden is my favourite spot of all. I spent a lot of time in there when I was on maternity leave, as buggy wheels on the garden's paving slabs tended to have a particularly soporific effect on my son!

I have often been tempted to stop the gardeners when I see them and tell them what a great job they do, but thought they might think I was a bit of a mad woman.

Vickster NEVER be afraid or concerned about praising someone.

People are so quick to criticise or whinge these days, so praise is rare and so never feel bad about being positive to someone.

If it is rejected, well that is about THEM, not you!

Having said that, I often smile at and thank the gardeners for their work.

I spend so much time in this park and have always loved it but it's especially beautiful this year and I know a lot of hard work goes into making and keeping it this way. The gardeners do an amazing job but a huge thank you should go to the committee who run the Friends of Peckham Rye Park. They have all given their free time to fund raise for many, many years and have been absolutely crucial to the ongoing restoration and protection of the park. Everyone's starting to notice the results of all the many years of hard work.
